Introduction

This research is based on the ideas presented in the novel “The Rescue” written by
Nicholas Sparks which was published in 2000. The novel debuted as number 2 in the New York
Bestsellers and reached number 1 by the following week. The story follows the life of a single
mother, Denise Holton, with a handicapped child, Kyle, and her journey of finding love again.

This research aims to analyze and read the situation and hardships of a single mother with
no family and trying to adjust in a new place and start a new life all the while trying to look out
and help her four-year old son.
