Diploma Course in Computer Science for One Semester


Preamble—Rationale for starting the course
The Department of Computer Science runs an M.Sc. course in computer science. This is a
four-semester course with theoretical and mathematical bias. The eligibility for this course is
a first class in B.Sc. Computer Science. Students with B.E./B.Tech. degree in branches of
Engineering like Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunications, etc., make
enquiries about whether they would be eligible for the M.Sc. Computer Science course. In
order to create an opening for such students, we have decided to run, on experimental basis, a
Diploma Course in Computer Science for one semester from January to June 2015 for
candidates of B.E./B.Tech. in any stream of Engineering (except Computer Science & Engg)
that would in effect serve as a Bridge/Orientation Course to M.Sc. Computer Science (Four
semester course from July 2015 to June 2017).

Eligibility, Fee Structure etc.


Male students who have passed B.E./B.Tech. with 65% marks or above from any standard
Institute under a recognized University in any stream of Engineering/Technology other than
Computer Science and Engineering may apply for the above one-semester Diploma Course in
Computer Science to be conducted from January to June 2015 at the Belur main campus of
the University. The course fee for this one-semester course will be Rs.3000/-. Limited hostel
facilities will be available for candidates in need of accommodation, for which separate hostel
and mess fees (approximately Rs.2500/- per month) are chargeable. Eligible male candidates
