Genesis 28:15

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places
whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I
will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to
thee of.

I am with thee

A Lonely traveler stooped upon a mountain top, he was no ordinary traveler, he was a man
exiled from his own home, he was a man guilty before God, his father and his only brother. He
had sinned against God, cheated his father, betrayed his brother, and lost his home, separated
from his loving mother and alone in the dark, cold and lonely desert hills. He has a stone for a
pillow, a desert floor for a bed and an open sky for a blanket. He was filled with shame betrayal,
he carried a heavy load of guilt for his sins against God, his father and his brother. He was filled
with fear of his brother, the great hunter, who is now hunting for his life. He carried grief for his
loss of a home, a family, a place and identity. Who could love such a guilty sinner? Who would
care for his aguish, pain, misery grief and shame?

In that dark night, God was with him, he said to this sinner, betrayer, cheat, and thief:

 I am with thee
o despite of your sin, I am with thee
o despite of your failures, I am with thee
o your family may chase you from home, I am with thee
o Your sins may lead you into despair, I am with thee
 God was saying to Jacob, you are not alone
o You are not alone in the dark cold desert, I am with the
o You are not alone in the guilt and shame, I am with thee
 God is still saying the same to you today:
o You are not alone, I am with thee
o Your loved ones may desert you, I am with thee, you are not alone
o You may lose, your wealth, your health, your status and friends,
 remember I am with thee, you are not alone
o when it feels lonely, when it’s hard to bear, when the shame and guilt is too much
 remember I am with thee, you are not alone
 God said to Jacob I will keep thee in all places whither thou goest,
 he is saying the same today to you
o when go to the mountains and life is hard to climb, and you feel you will fall
 Remember, I will keep you wherever you go will keep you from falling, I
will give you strength to climb
 Because I am with thee, will climb with thee, you are not lone
o when you go through the valley, and shadows of death are all around
 Remember, I will keep you through every valley, through every shadow
and beyond the shadow, my light of hope shines,
 there is hope beyond the valley of the shadow of death
 God told Jacob, “I will bring thee again into this land” he also says to you
o I will restore to you all you have lost, I will restore you fortune,
o I will give you back your name, your purpose, your pride and your glory.
o I will bring you back
 every blessing and more,
 every joy and more,
 every peace and more.
o I will bring you back, the best is yet to come,
 hold on,
 fight one,
 pray on,
 the best is yet to come
 Finally God tells Jacob, “I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have
spoken” he is also saying to you:
o I will never leave you nor forsake you,
 Friends may leave and forsake you, I will NEVER, EVER, leave you nor
forsake you
 Your family may neglect and abandon you, I will NEVER, EVER, leave
you nor forsake you
 He says to you, behold, I have engrave you in the palms of my hand,
 Those nail prints are my assurance to you, I am with thee
 Those nail prints are my assurance there is nothing I can’t do for
you, there is no place I can’t go for you,
o forty days and nights of hunger in a desert for you
o climbing a hill with a heavy cross just for you
o diving through the valley of the shadow of death at Calvary
just for you
o I will fulfil every promise I have made to you
 The promises to see you through this life
 The promises to be with you no matter what life throws at you
 The promises to keep you through every place where life may lead you
 The promises of restoration, a home in glory,
 no more pain,
 no more tears
 no more suffering
 no more sicknesses
 no more death
 God shall wipe away all tears there is no pain, no death not tears,
 I will take you to a land of fadeless day, where there is no night, where
there is joy forevermore.
