Wave Phenomenon

1. Interference
 the superposition of two waves  originating from two coherent sources and
monochromatic
 Hence, the frequency, amplitude are in phase
 Result of superposition waves
 Types of interferences
o Constructive/ antinode -  occurs when the crests  or troughs of both waves
coincide to produce a wave with  crests and troughs of maximum amplitude,a.

o Destructive/ node - occurs when the  crest of one wave coincides with the
trough of  the other wave, thus canceling each other with  the result that the
resultant amplitude is zero

 Distance between 2 consecutives nodes,x ∝ wavelength, λ

 λ=axD
2. Superposition
 the wave  displacement of the combined  motion of any number of interacting  waves
at a point is the sum of the  displacements of all the  component waves at that point.

3. Reflection
 wave undergoes a change  in direction of propagation when it is reflected
 i=r
4. Refraction
 occurs when the  speed of a wave changes, as it moves from one  medium to
another.
 Example,  λ < if v >

 Caused the frequency is same, speed, v, wavelength,λ, and direction  changed

5. diffraction
 the spreading of waves that happens when it passes  through a narrow opening or
when it passes around a small obstacle along  its path.

 Caused the
 Wave direction changes.
Wave velocity, ν, changes.
Wavelength, λ, is unchanged.
Frequency, ƒ, is unchanged.
Speed unchanged.
