Analytics techniques for decision making

Application of Mathematics in my professional life 

I am working at Bata Shoe Company Bangladesh Ltd. In merchandising department.

Merchandisers constantly make decisions that require a thorough understanding of mathematics which
is an inevitable part of my daily job.

Merchandising is all the business acti viti es involved in planning, creati ng, distributi ng and
marketi ng merchandise assortments and classifi cati ons to the target consumer. So if I
start from the very beginning, I need to work with my product development team where
calculati on is must. My designer fi rst makes the patt ern of shoes by measuring standard
feet size. Aft er completi ng all the patt ern work and sti tching and att aching job then
comes the costi ng. I need to work with my costi ng department to fi nd out the material
consumpti on unit and calculate the price of the components accordingly. Then comes the
price setti ng job. I need to calculate my margin by a standard, considering that margin
will cover all of my operati onal and other expenses and will give me a profi t. Aft er setti ng
the price then comes business forecast where I analyze the trend and project how much I
can sell then I go for producti on planning accordingly. Aft er the product is ready then
comes how much quanti ty I need to distribute at how many number of stores and in what
assortment. Finally I also need to calculate my yearly turnover, margin value and how
much budget need for next month/ year etc.

So this is how mathemati cs has become an inevitable part of my daily job.
