Dear Parent,

Would your child be interested in learning an instrument? We have a great

introductory band program at Aurora and would like to tell you and your child
about it! As a parent, you play an important role in the potential success of your
child’s musicianship, if they choose to join the program.

In February, there will be a display in the band room of each instrument

available for students to study. There will be a display 5:00-7:00 PM on
Monday, February 24th and 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday, February 27th. Every
student is welcome, regardless of and financial questions/concerns! Anyone
interested in playing a band instrument will be given the opportunity to try
instruments of their choice. Parents will have the opportunity to talk with Miss
Powelson and ask any questions they may have about the program.

Before the end of the school year, we will “test” each student who has
returned the band sign-up form by March 21st. Our goal is to guide the student
toward an instrument that sets them up for the greatest chance for success in the
program. The necessity to develop a balanced instrumentation may influence the
instrument your son or daughter selects, but it is with theirs and the ensemble’s
best interests in mind. It is essential to create a well-rounded ensemble for the
musical experience to be an impactful experience for everyone.

The band instruments available to study are:

 Flute
 Clarinet
 Alto Saxophone
 Trumpet
 French Horn
 Trombone
 Euphonium
 Tuba
 Percussion
I hope to see you at both the Instrument Display/Try-On in February and the
Instrument Fitting in April! If you have any questions, feel free to contact Anika
Powelson either by email or phone.

Best,
Miss Anika Powelson
