REFLECTION:
MENTAL HEALTH IN TIME OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC
This Covid-19 pandemic has brought us immense suffering in our daily living.
Different people have different capabilities in coping with the epidemic wherein some are
doing great, specially those that are privileged and some are having extreme worries in
how to deal with the everyday struggle in this challenging times. This event has caused
some of us to have realizations that we didn’t tend to realize when we we’re living a normal
life. Since the pandemic began and different methods to prevent the spread of the virus
are implemented, we always kept an eye in our health, physically. On how we can avoid
the virus and be healthy in order for us to not be in great risk, as well as our loved ones.
We are not aware that the pandemic also affects our lives in the psychological aspects
that we tend to forget that mental health is also as important as our physical health,
especially in facing challenges.
Being physically healthy can reduce the risk of developing several diseases and
can also improve the quality of life which makes this a reason why people give great
importance to physical health. But some are not paying much attention to mental health.
The importance of mental health, impact of the pandemic to mental health and coping
with mental health issues in time of pandemic are tackled in the webinar. There are three
importance of mental health as discussed by Dr. Roallos, the one that caught most of my
attention is that mental health is important for strengthening resilience. It is given that all
of us will go through difficulties wherein we almost thought that we cannot go through it,
having a good mental health will help us build stronger resilience which can help us to
maintain balance in our lives during difficult periods and can also protect us from the risk
of developing some mental health issues. The virus outbreak was also linked with the
outbreak of anxiety and distress because we are very much concern with ourselves, our
loved ones, and the people around us. Some are having a feeling of anxiety and stress
because of the difficulty in coping in their everyday life, which are caused by
unemployment that made it hard for people in the middle state to live at ease. My family
is one of these people that are feeling anxious and stressed because my father is self-
employed and he got a massive decrease in income that of course affected us greatly,
but we are lucky that our family, in our mother side helps us in coping with the pandemic
and they never forget us. This made me realize that it is really important to have people
that you can trust and will help you in times of difficulty, this may help in reducing mental
health problems. There are ways in order for us to give value to our mental heath as
discussed in the webinar. I am very happy that I have been doing the things that Dr.
Roallos said. Music makes me feel good, specially when I’m playing my guitar I always
feel at ease and I think I helps me forget almost all my problems, it also helps me express
myself.
Knowing what is mental health and its importance in necessary in order for us to
live a fulfilling life. This leads us in having an idea in giving value to our mental health and
others especially in difficult times, like this pandemic. Being mentally healthy will help us
not only in challenging events, but also in our ordinary lives for it gives us a better
understanding of ourselves.
