(206) 624-5344 (ISBN 0-916682-91-9) Many Norwegian letters sound the same as in English, but some Norwegian letters are pronounced or written differently. To learn the Norwegian sounds of these letters, write each example in the space provided in addition to saying the word many times. This is intended as a guide, so refer to it whenever you need help. After you practice the word, see if you can locate it on the map. You will have many chances to practice and * - perfect this sound in special sections throughout the book. Now practice the important words you learned on the inside front cover. Step i Eight Key Question Words Be rergu) : : : When you arrive in Norge, the very first thing you will need to do is to ask questions — Norway “Where is the train station?’ ‘Where can I exchange money?” ‘‘Where (hvor) is the lavatory?” “fivor is a restaurant?” “Hvor do I catch a taxi?” “‘Hvor is a good hotel?” “‘Hvor is my luggage?” — and the list will go on and on for the entire length of your visit. In Norwegian, there are EIGHT KEY QUESTION WORDS to learn. For example, the eight key question words will help you to find out exactly what you are ordering in a restaurant before you order it — and not after the surprise (or shock!) arrives. Take a few minutes to study and practice saying the eight basic question words listed below. Then cover the Norwegian words with your hand and fill in each of the blanks with the matching (nawrshk)(ord) norsk ord.
