Topic / Unit: Yeast Lab

Cooperative structure or strategy to be applied in the unit:

Jigsaw

Learning goals, outcomes, standards

How will the structure or strategy be used to support your learning goals?
Students will work together to complete a multistep lab to identify how the reactants
that enter of a reaction must be equal to the products that exit a reaction.

Positive Interdependence
How will the students in this activity have positive interdependence?
Students will need to work together to complete the lab. When they all work together on
their individual parts they complete a fun experiment.

Individual Accountability
Where is the individual accountability for each student in this activity?
By each person being forced to complete their own personal section everyone must work
together to complete the lab’s objective. If one person fails on their part then the whole
experiment can fail.

Social Skills
Identify at least one social skill required for students to be successful in their cooperative
group:
Students will need to practice taking turns, waiting patiently, and share materials.

Strategy for teaching social skills

I will help teach this strategy by helping students identify when it is time to switch roles and
remind them that everyone must complete their part so they do not have a choice on who
gets to do what role.

Team-building Activity
Groups will complete the following activity before they begin working together:
Students will identify the reactants and products of the equation as well as come up
with a plan to complete the lab. They will identify who is #1, #2, #3, and #4 in their
group. They will also gather lab supplies as a group.
