Chapter 4
King invited him to a contest in order to get the Ministry, one should Better
perform a rope walk. And those who fall down they broke their legs. One of
the best performer is selected as Prime Minister or Chief Advisor. Here
Gulliver made a few reformation in order to save life of performers. He set up
a peace of cloth or thread mesh if the dancer falls down he must Be risk free.
Gulliver requested king to set him free but the king only asked to follow his six orders / conditions if he
agrees then he is free. 1.Help us in war in peace. 2. Warn 2 hours before you visit capital. 3. not to step on
my people or their animals. 4. You must bring message quickly anywhere from Lilliput. 5. Helping my
workers to carry heave objects. 6. leave not the kingdom without my permission.
Satire Swift is satirizing the English monarchy. He is saying that governmental positions are filled based not in
knowledge and ability, but by some other criteria that really has nothing to do a candidates ability to do
Allegorical the job. Just as the Lilliputians use rope dancing to fill important positions, the English of that time often
filled positions based on noble birth, patronage, or political favoritism.
Of course, the English were not the only ones to do this, and the practice is still employed today. Just look at how often
campaign supporters are hired by governors and presidents to fill important posts.
Chapter 5 His Visit to Mildendo
Capital of Lilliput
It was his first day after freedom , he stepped over the city wall and walked
Through the city with care, his each step was full of risk against anyone
Could crush to death. He met with man who informed him his city was
The most crowded about 5000 people live here. Houses were 3 to 5 stories.
They were painted with bright colors. People watched him through the
Windows. He laid down near the castle where he could see the king palace. It was so beautiful as the king told
him. He could see a queen though the window of palace. City was squared with two main streets that crossed
the city. Day by day I learnt more about the Lilliput and got used to it’s every small and tiny things. King
rewards for obeying 6 years and punishes if someone disobeys. Met with king’s chief assistant Redressal. Who
introduces him and informs him about problem of the Lilliput and enmity with detailed history.
Irony Midendo is the most crowded city and capital with 5000 People, a habitant said with proud.

Chapter 6 Lilliput in danger
1. There are two groups of politics; THE HIGH HEELS AND THE LOW HEELS.
Groups Are named after their style of the shoes. They hate each others. The
king is himself from low heels. Once, the high heels were more popular. KING
is afraid, the high heels are more in numbers and is afraid of losing his Power.
2. THE KING is upset about his son. He WEARS ONE SHOE WITH HIGH HEELS BUT THE OTHER ONE WITH
LOW. That’s why the prince moves up and down when he walks.
3. The king has enemies in the other places. LILLIPUT & a near by in the east island have been in a war for 3
years. The war began over HOW PEOPLE CRACK THE EGGS. The Boiled eggs are mostly eaten here.
LILILPUTIAN mostly Crack the eggs from BIG END. Our current King is small ender. The big enders refused
to obey the law. Some BIG-ENDERS have gone to BLEFUSCU. The king there wants to take over the
LILLIPUTS. There the big enders support him.
Satire This passage is a satire on the conflict between the Roman Catholic church and the Church of England and
the associated conflict between France and England.
The reference to the grandfather of the present emperor, who cut his finger breaking an egg, is to Henry VIII. Henry broke with Rome over the question of Papal authority and
also over the matter of Anne Boleyn.
It is computed, that eleven Thousand Persons have, at several Times, suffered Death, rather than
Allegorical submit to break their Eggs at the smaller End.” -Jonathan Swift, Gulliver’s Travels (43)

Chapter 7 Saving Lilliput
2 days later, the Gulliver finds his things ready to fail the plot of Blefuscu
Ships . Asks the permission from king. He takes off his shows and socks and
Gets into the shallow water. After a KM, he reaches the ships. The people of
Island of Blefuscu shouted, and considered him a giant, and few ran few
Jumped into water, few were dragged by the ship hooked by Gulliver. First no ship moved when he pulled
those all ships with rope and hooks. Comes to his mind that it must be anchor holding each ship hooked firmly.
He cuts the each rope of the anchor one by one with his knife. Then he towed the ships away. When he come
back it was quite difficult to bring the ships and to march over water, somewhere water was deep till shoulder.
So the Lilliputian were only able to see ships not head of Enormous one ( GULLIVER) sooner they saw
appearing him with full body and shouted, HURRAY, the king appreciated and asked him to help him to knock
down all the Blefuscu people. Take down rest of ships from Blefuscu . That Gulliver denied. As a result king
became angry with Gulliver and went to the palace.

Chapter 8 A Peace offer
The king still remembers the refusal to destroy the ships. Few of the officials
Were with Gulliver. And few told him that he was traitor. He put himself
Into enmity against the king. Many became enemies. And started filling
The ears of king to kill Gulliver and told the king that Gulliver had played
So many fools with you and our kingdom.
About three weeks passed, the Blefuscu sent an official team to the king.
The meeting went long with the Lilliputian king. AS a chief official, Gulliver was also a part of that meeting.
The line starts from the official of Blefuscu ; asking for peace offer. For too long we are war, getting loss for
nothing. THE BELFUSCU official and The king made a treaty filled with conditions and a few moment later,
they agreed. As the official returned back to Gulliver again for thanking them for not to obeying the order of
taking rest of the ships, this deed made our king so happy, he invites you to his palace.
Allegorical
Here Lilliput is Representing English while Blefuscu is explicating France.
Chapter 9 Fire at the Palace
That night before the fire starts , Gulliver thinks about the whole days activities
And the king and then about the official of Blefuscu for peace offer. He also
Thinking of invitation by Blefuscu . He also reminded the fault he made by not
Obeying the order of the king. He went to sleep.
Suddenly he heard of screaming, crying and shouting. He reached to definite place.
Where he saw the palace on fire. The fighter fighters were trying extinguish the fire but the buckets were too
small to set the fire off.
The fire started setting other room. So there people asked for help in no time to set the fire off. Where Gulliver had only one
idea and he asked everyone to move back and close the eyes. He started firing with shower of urine and in no way the
palace fire was extinguished. Everyone was happy but the queen was not. She threaten him to take revenge of it. And also
she called the enormous man has no manners. He even got an official later from the king , appreciating but condemning also
for helping the queen in against the law. The Queen decided not to stay those apartment again. And ordered not to repair
those part of the palace.
More scatological humor occurs when Gulliver puts out a fire at the palace by urinating on
the empress's chambers. This turns out to violate a law the kingdom has against urinating in
Humour the vicinity of the palace, but the emperor pardons Gulliver. The empress, however, is so
horrified that she vows revenge and declares the rooms shall never be repaired.
Chapter 10 THE PLOT AGAINST Gulliver
Some official of the king were not happy with Gulliver anymore, they filled the ears of King
Both sides and lied a lot , explained the excuses to urge the king for ordering Gulliver’s death.
One of the official was Filmnap who told so many things against Gulliver , that he has even
Not done. Lord of in the court of king, was friend of Gulliver who revealed him with these
Secrets of Filmnap and company deadly against him, convincing their king to end up Gulliver.
Knowing this, Gulliver frustrated and shouted , I have helped the king In peace and war as were as escaped his palace from
fire. As he felt sad when he came to know about Filmnap, who said the king that Gulliver was against the King, he is a traitor
and Traitor must be given punishment according to the law. He is traitor because he refused to go back to Blefuscu to take
the ships. He did not helped the king to destroy all the BIG ENDIANS. The other enemies are saying that you are enemy of
our Lilliput. And want not our king to see in power against the BIG ENDIANS. However Gulliver knew that they were
twisting the truth. He was in his actions those were good. they are plotting to put your house on fire while you are sleeping.
When Guliver inquired about his close friend Redressal if he supports him or oppose him. Redressal said you have some
mistakes, but he has made sometimes good for us. So his punishment must be little , we must not suffer him to death . We
should be generous to him. just like making him blind. Gulliver ran away from that island to Blefuscu.

He was served with the declivous dishes in the kitchen of Blefuscu .
First night was hard to spend. Because of no bed and cold. How ever he had been scared of

Gulliver is surprised "at the intrepidity of these diminutive mortals, who dare venture to mount and walk upon my body" (I.i.16),
but he admires this quality in them. Gulliver eventually learns their language, and arranges a contract with them for his
freedom. However, he is bound by this agreement to protect Lilliput from invasion by the people of Blefuscu. The Lilliputians
relate to him the following story: In Lilliput, years ago, people once broke eggs on the big end. However, the present king's
grandfather once cut himself breaking the egg in this manner, so the King at the time, the father of the present king's
grandfather, issued an edict that all were to break the eggs on the small end. Some of the people resisted, and they found refuge
in Blefuscu, and "for six and thirty moons past" the two sides have been at war (I.iv.48

In the book, Swift satirizes the political enmity between France and England through his recounting of
Gulliver's experiences in Lilliput. There, Gulliver finds that he is the only giant in a land of tiny inhabitants. He is
captured by his curious hosts but manages to earn his release after his petitions for liberty are accepted by the
Lilliputian government. Part of the terms of his release involves his responsibility of fighting for Lilliput should
it be attacked by Blefuscu, Lilliput's sworn enemy.

Why, one might ask, did Swift have such a consuming contempt for the Whigs?
This hatred began when Swift entered politics as the representative of the Irish church. Representing the Irish
bishops, Swift tried to get Queen Anne and the Whigs to grant some financial aid to the Irish church. They refused,
and Swift turned against them even though he had considered them his friends and had helped them while he
worked for Sir William Temple. Swift turned to the Tories for political allegiance and devoted his propaganda
talents to their services. Using certain political events of 1714-18, he described in Gulliver's Travels many things
that would remind his readers that Lilliputian folly was also English folly — and, particularly, Whig folly. The
method, for example, which Gulliver must use to swear his allegiance to the Lilliputian emperor parallels the
absurd difficulty that the Whigs created concerning the credentials of the Tory ambassadors who signed the Treaty
of Utrecht.
