These questions are designed to help you review the 297 beginning-level kanji listed on inside back cover. Check to see if there are any Kan rom these exercises that you are unfamiliar with or have forgotten, Since the kanji presented at the beginning-level vary from textbook to textbook, there may be some kanji among the 297 that you have never learned before. If you do find any kanji that you don't remember or haven't learned, you should work to memorize these before you proceed tothe first chapter. You may fnd it useful here to refer to the chart on the Tobira website http:/tobira.9460,jp/tobiralogin, which compares the 297 kajito those introduced inthe beginning, level textbooks Genki, Nakama, and Yookoso. S]) Study the basic information section. ‘Some basic information about the new kanji is introduced at the beginning of each chapter. The words bolded in the example sentences are the vocabulary you must memorize for the chapter. Use this basic information section to study the kanji in depth, making sure to learn the radical and stroke order for each kanji along with its meaning, reading, and form. FEED) From the kanjilist in Tobira, check the kanji and vocabulary items that must be memorized. Once you've studied the basic information on the new kanji for the chapter, make sure to look at the kanji list for the chapter in Tobira or the vocabulary list for the chapter at the end of this kanji book (--p.218-230) to see which kanji and vocabulary items appear in the practice exercises. In the exercises there are words that use previously-learned kanji as well as words that use the new kanji introduced in the chapter's basic information section, Before you proceed to the practice exercises, make sure you know the meanings of all the kanji and words that appear in the exercises. Sua > Do the practice exercises. Next, do the practice exercises. Use the answer sheets at the back of the book. As you memorize each kanji, pay attention to the various aspects of kanji learning (e.g, the commonalities in form, meaning, and pronunciation). If you come across an exercise you don't immediately understand, try to complete it without looking at the answers; you should check these only once you've finished all the exercises. > Check your answers and study your mistakes. If there were exercises you don't understand or can’t complete correctly, review once again the kanji and the vocabulary items containing the kanji used in the exercises. Then, repeat the exercise until you're certain you've memorized the words and kanji involved. if you find an area where you're particularly weak—say, stroke order or radicals—make sure to focus on that area when you study the kanjifor the next chapter. In order to obtain kanji fluency, iis important to practice kanji repeatedly and to review kanji continuously {rom prior chapters, redoing the exercises from each previous chapter as often as necessary to ensure that ‘you don't forget any of the kanji you've learned.
