Write about the geographical background of Great Britain

Great Britain is located in Western Europe. Being an island, it is surrounded by

waters. To the west is the Atlantic Ocean, to the north-east of the North Sea, to the
south, southeast of the English Channel. Between Ireland and the UK lies the Sea
of Ireland. It is the largest of the British Isles, including Ireland, Man Island,
Jersey, Guernsey, the Shetland and Orkney archipelagos. The relief of England
consists mostly of low-lying hills, separated from north to south by a chain of hills
and mountains (Cumbria, Pennini Mountains). Britain's climate is heavily
influenced by tropical-maritime, polar-sea, polar-continental and tropical-
continental air masses. The United Kingdom is located at the confluence of the
tropical air masses in the south with the polar air masses in the north. In this area,
temperature variations create instability, which determines the prominent character
of the changing weather in the UK, where, over a single day, all kinds of weather
can be recorded. Britain's vegetation is characteristic of the European oceanic
areas, Western Europe belonging to the hardwood forest area: oak, ash, maple, but
also associated species: hornbeam, beech, black anime, elm, lime. Representative
is the grassy vegetation: grasshoppers and natural pastures. In the high, cold and
wet sectors, land and peatlands are dominant. The climate of the United Kingdom,
the heavy rains, gives the opportunity to develop a variety of palm trees.
