Fake News Detection: A Deep Learning Approach

Published on: 2018

In this paper, the purpose was to detect fake news with the help of deep learning architectures. They
stated that, most of the existing models for fake news detection treat it as binary classification task
(classifying the elements of a given set into two groups on the basis of a classification rule)- which limits
the machine’s ability to learn. So, this paper presented neural architecture to predict fake news by
making a stand between the headline and the body of article.

Their model had an accuracy of 94.21% on the datasets.

They used Tf-IDF – Dense neural network(DNN), by which they got a result of 94.21% accuracy.

Their second best model was BoW-DNN. They also came to a conclusion that, Word2Vec model had the
lowest accuracy score when tested on datasets. They wanted to extend their work on social media
datasets in future.
