The United States of America and Iraq War

In the year 2003, the US invaded Iraq because of its alleged connections to terrorist groups and the
creation of weapons of mass destruction. According to President Bush on his State of the Union Address,
“The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a
decade.” He then asked the president of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, to relinquish power. After only 48 hours
the US launched Tomahawk cruise missiles on Baghdad in a strategy which they called the “shock and
awe.”
