First of all we want to clear some of the prejudices concerning old people.

 Not all old people are bed ridden and disabled

 We need to clearly draw the line between handicaps and disabilities. A person may have a
handicap but not a disability.

As explained by Görkem ŞİMŞEKKAN

 A handicap is defined as a disadvantage for a given individual

 Disability is one that limits or prevents the fulfilment of a role that is normal for that
individual
 Most importantly a disable person may not be physically handicap but may have cognitive
impairments.
Introduction
Mauritius has seen a drastic demographic change such that today population growth is among the
lowest in the developing world. This has inevitably brought about the problem of ageing. From 2004
to 2009 the elderly population aged 60 and over grew from 115 701 to 136 096(about 17.6 %).

With ageing comes panoply of impairments, as caring for another person requires a great deal of
time and energy it can be physically damaging to take on added responsibility if one is affected by a
diseased and handling costs for the elderly person becomes overwhelming. With increasing trends in
ageing population the resident of home is likely to be on the rise.

Disabilities reduce the range of activities that a person can perform and also hinders his quality of
life. Therefore we as designers are trying to make objects in their entourage that can compensate for
their impairments through the use specialised materials, customized design, ergonomics and
anthropometric data.

We propose to designfurniturefor the home using solidwork as a possible repository for spent
nuclear fuel. In this review I will achieve the following two goals:
