AN IMPORTANT REQUEST

Dear One, August 2020

The Findhorn Foundation was born to be a

planetary centre of new consciousness and
transformation.

For over 57 years it has offered educational

experiences and programmes where new
possibilities emerge every day. It is a
recognised pioneer in community living,
cooperation with nature, and advancing a
consciousness of wholeness and stewardship of
the planet.

Tens of thousands of participants have

attended conferences, workshops, and
gatherings of all kinds.
Each has contributed to the vision of a positive
future based on spiritual values and
interdependency and deep recognition of the
Sacred at the heart of all life.

The mission of the Foundation is as strong

today as it has ever been.

In the midst of social uncertainty and rapid

changes, we are committed to offering a light of
hope, a vision of new possibilities, and a way
forward to build a better world.

The challenges of the Covid-19 lockdown have

required us to think about our programmes and
structures differently, to take pause, and to
examine deeply how to position ourselves in
the coming years.

We want to share with you our process, the

shifts that are occurring, and our plans for
the future.
Your participation and your engagement with
the Foundation is invited during this critical
period of organisational adjustment and deep
listening. Whether in times of quiet and
meditation, through action, creative ideas, and
new possibilities, we welcome you!

We are also asking everyone we know to

contribute financially toward the transition of
the Foundation as it takes significant steps in
worldwide outreach, online learning and
strengthening the spiritual work so needed at
this time. We invite your passion, strength of
vision, and generosity. And we are asking on
several fronts.

The immediate response to the pandemic has

inspired many friends to commit nearly
£660,000 in immediate relief, including
donations, government grants, and loans that
must be repaid. We are deeply grateful for this
outpouring of generosity since having to cease
onsite guest programmes.

There is much more to do.

WE MUST ADAPT AND PREPARE FOR

UNPRECEDENTED CHANGES . Pandemic-related

closures have meant programme cancellations
in 2020, co-worker furloughs, drastically
reduced budgets, and halting many scheduled
projects. A repeated cycle of openings and
closings into next year would be financially
devastating. Our management and leadership,
in fact all our staff, are working diligently to
navigate these uncertain times, both for the
short term as well as charting a course for long
term sustainability.

In order to meet our current financial needs at

drastically reduced operations, we must secure
new funding of £1,800,000 just to fund reduced
operations with virtually no programme
revenue, with an additional £934,100 for 2021
educational, capital improvements and on-
going maintenance — a total of £2,734,100. See
below for further details. We will require
further funding for priority initiatives through
2023.

O UR FINANCIAL NEEDS ARE SIGNIFICANT . We

deeply need your support to help us achieve
this goal. Over the next two years we will be
making many profound shifts. Your love,
donations, ideas, and inner support will
empower the next generation of co-workers,
educators, and change agents; ensuring the
Foundation remains globally connected as a
powerful source of blessing, inspiration, and a
positive demonstration of spiritual and
community life.

1. We are prioritising our mission to

teach our core spiritual programmes in
new ways.
We must skillfully adapt programmes for in-
person as well as online learning. Our core
programmes express our founding impulse,
our values, our planetary vision, and the
personal commitment for building a better
world. In addition to onsite programmes,
conferences, and ecovillage demonstration our
goal is to develop a robust online platform to
share our learning and spiritual vision by
creating a virtual community that reaches a
diverse and planet-wide audience. We are
investing significant resources to build the
necessary infrastructure, content creation,
production, and training to become a leader in
this field.

2. We must identify expertise – from

both within the Foundation and outside
– who can embody and teach the
founding spiritual principles.
We are solidifying a team of facilitators and
content providers to share the vision of what is
emerging on the planet to give people an
understanding, spiritual practices, and a
hopeful vision for the future. Accreditation of
applicable courses and measuring impact will
attract new participants who are eager to
immerse in skills-based programmes dedicated
to applying their learning to solving real world
problems.

3. We must continue to upgrade

learning spaces, residential housing, and
guest accommodations.
All the original guest bungalows in the Park
need to be removed. There is an architectural
plan and an agreed-upon design to replace
them with new accommodation and office
space. Developing Cullerne Garden as an
education centre will also strengthen our
sustainability offerings. The Community Centre
roof needs to be replaced, and there are several
properties that warrant immediate repair. An
example of very recent success is that co-
workers living at Cluny reduced energy costs
by being awarded a seed grant to install an
array of solar panels. We hope in the future we
can list other similar accomplishments.

4. A goal of achieving a Living Wage for

all Foundation co-workers must be met
by the end of 2021.
Not only must we meet government guidelines,
we must operate as a socially responsible
enterprise. Paying co-workers a living wage is a
demonstration of our abundant thinking as
well as a means to ensure staff retention, stress
reduction, or staff having to gain part-time
employment outside of the Foundation.

5. We must consistently deliver healthy,

effective financial stewardship.
Long-term effective financial stewardship
requires forward planning and transparent
resource management. In concert with the
Collaboration Circle, (comprised of all the key
organisations and initiatives), the Foundation is
strengthening its transparency, managing its
assets responsibly, coordinating decisions and
financial impacts, and improving the
Foundation’s financial infrastructure so that
income and expenditure are carefully
monitored, with a healthy balance of
programme revenue, investment income, and
philanthropy. Trustees and Stewards have
formed a fundraising committee and council,
further ensuring that all donations, however
large or small, are fully accounted for and
managed to approved guidelines.
