CHAPTER II
METHOD
This chapter presents the research design, participants of the study, instrument,
data gathering procedure and data analysis.
Research Design
The study will utilize the descriptive method of research. This research method
aims to identify characteristics, frequencies, trends and categories. It attempts to collect
quantifiable information to be used for statistical analysis of the population sample
(Bhat, 2019). The application of the descriptive method is on describing the level of
numeracy of the Senior high School Technical Vocational learners based on their basic
skills in terms of their final grades in Mathematics, educational assistance program
undertaken to increase the level of basic skills in Mathematics, benefits drawn from the
undertaken educational assistance program, and the development, evaluation and
proposal of E - Book for numeracy learning, a supplementary learning material.
Participants of the Study
Participants will be 200 Grade 11 Senior High School Technical Vocational Track
learners of San Pablo Colleges and 30 private school Mathematics teachers of Grade
11 Senior High School Technical Vocational Track. The learners will be selected using
the stratified random sampling technique while the teachers with a year of teaching
Mathematics subject in TVL Tracks will be selected using purposive sampling technique.
2
Instrument
A researcher-made questionnaire is the main instrument of the study. Part I
focuses on the educational assistance program undertaken to increase the level of
basic skills in Mathematics of Grade 11 Technical Vocational Senior High School
learners. Part II specifies the benefits drawn from the undertaken educational
assistance program and Part III is the evaluation of the E – Book by the experts.
It will be subjected to the test of reliability and validity.
Data – Gathering Procedure
The letter of permission (Appendix A) to conduct the study will be forwarded to
the principal of San Pablo Colleges and schools that offer TVL Tracks. Upon approval of
the request distribution of questionnaire will be personally done. Retrieval is a week
after.
Data Analysis
For Problem 1, frequency distribution and percentage will be used.
For Problems 2, 3, and 4 weighted mean will be applied.
