Informatics Nurses

There are different kinds or types of Nursing Profession in the world. Each one of
them have their own roles and duties depending on their chosen path. One type of Nursing
Profession is the Nursing Informatics. Honestly, it is my first time to hear and encounter this
kind of Nursing Profession. As a Nursing Student, I think it is important for me to learn and
know about Nursing Informatics specially we are now living in the 21st century where
technology is more improving and becoming hi-tech.

Over the past years, technology keeps on developing and it become an integral part of
healthcare. In a hospital settings, there is an increase in the use of technology which make
things easier and hassle-free. Some includes virtual office visits, online appointment
scheduling and payment, mobile laboratories, and electronic medication prescribing.

Nurses have partake in design and implementation of information technology in


healthcare. They are essential in helping patients set up their own personal health records or
explaining to patients how to use patients portal. Informatics nurses are expert in analytical
and critical thinking skills. They understand patient care delivery workflow and integration
points for automated documentation. Also, they are experienced in utilizing and
implementing for nursing process. Informatics nurses should be knowledgeable about basic
computer skills, information literacy, and information management.

Nursing Informatics involves the connection of information technology and nursing


science. American Nurses Association recognized Nursing Informatics as a Specialty in the
profession. It can be obtained by a bachelor's degree, master's degree ond some institutions
offer a certification in Nursing Informatics. There are many opportunities in Nursing
Informatics which includes nursing practice, in education, administration, leadership and
research. As time goes by, Nursing Informatics evolves and become widespread because of
the rapid incorporation of advances in technology. As for today, Nursing Informatics is still
on processing and discovering new technologies to offer access and opportunities to provide
quality care to patients in remote settings.
