II. Their History

 Dumagat is a group of people whose ancestral origin is traced from Negritos,
which is one of the earliest inhabitants of the Philippines, preceding the
Austronesian migrations (Source: ethnoastronomical study of the dumagat
indigenous people, pdf)
 Dumagats first inhabited Bulacan, but were then replaced by “Taga-
ilog”/tagalogs later on: http://www.guiguinto.gov.ph/about-us/history/
 In World War II, part of the Filipino cavalry that pushed back the Japanese
troops were the Dumagat. Many of their descendants have now become part of
the bantay-gubat, rangers who patrol the forest perimeter (of the Ipo
Watershed) on the lookout for illegal loggers and others who seek to damage
Ipo and its resources (paraphrase this) (source:

III. Their Current Issues

 In Sapang Munti in Bulacan, the Ipo Watershed, a dam part of the more extensive Angat
Water System, houses a community whose majority is comprised of the Dumagat ethnic
group.
 The Dumagat themselves, ironically, have little access to potable water
 The bantay-gubat rangers are victims to a history of delayed and unpaid wages
