Rivers Assignment

• Assess the role of quantitative and qualitative primary data in

your study (8 marks)
• Describe what data you collected of each type
• Assess how each one is helpful to your study
Qualitative data are written descriptions, photos, and sketches. It
usually collects visual data or data without numbers such as a sketch
map or written description. Meanwhile quantitative data are
numerical data or data expressed by numbers. Quantitative data
usually collects rates or measurements to prove a hypothesis.
Qualitative data provides much more depth and detail. It allows the
reader to visualise the information given to them and allows them to
analyse it themselves. As a result, qualitative gives off more
information through the usage of images either drawn by hand or
taken by a camera. Quantitative data is more representative and can
be used to prove or disprove hypothesis. It also makes it much easier
to compare the areas in our study by finding the differences between
the quantitative data. However quantitative data can be misleading
as there could be anomalies in the samples taken.
