Improved Electrical Disconnectors

This patent describes an electrical disconnector device that is designed to detect and interrupt abnormal flows of dynamic current to ground that may occur if a lightning arrester fails. The disconnector contains an electromagnet that is activated by dynamic current flows. This causes detonation of an explosive cartridge via arcing, which forcibly separates the disconnector from the ground lead to interrupt the current. The compact disconnector can be incorporated into conventional lightning arresters without impairing their functionality.
