Materials:
Ladybug number cube
Ladybug manipulatives of your choice
(red and black counters, red and black beads, read and black pom poms, etc.)
Students will be placed into small groups of 3-5 and they will be given the necessary materials for the
assignment. They will roll the die to get “my number” and then they will use the beads to fill in their
number and one less and one more to the ladybug chart. Once students have mastered this concept,
students will then move on to the two-more and two-less worksheet. Here students will complete the same
task of rolling the die and filling in “my number”, “two-less”, and “two-more. There is a number line at
the bottom of the worksheet for students who may find themselves stuck or have mathematical difficulties
or needs.

Materials:

Ladybug without spots

Black beads or Black marker

Students will be given a lesson with ladybugs that show how their spots equal numbers shown and how
their numbers and spots can be interchanged to make the same equation. Students will be given a
ladybug worksheet with numbers and no spots. Here students will work independently to fill in the
“spots” with beads or black marker circles to show how the number of spots equal to the number listed
on the ladybug. This assignment will work as a visual to show students how objects can be used to show
numbers and they still carry the same values.

Number Combinations That

Make 10
Materials:
Ladybug without spots
Black beads or Black marker

Students will be shown that 10 is a whole number through spots on a ladybug. We will then work to
show how two parts can make the whole part to equal 10. We will show how two parts such as 4+6 can
be used to equal 10 and explore the range of combinations used to equal 10. They will be given a
worksheet that displays a ladybug with 10 spots. Below this picture, there will be blank ladybugs that
will need to be filled in by the students to show combinations that equal 10. Students will be given a
number line that can be used if they get suck and as added access to numbers used in the combinations
to equal 10.
