A FORMER member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 was killed in an

ambush in Sitio Nasipit, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City past 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon,
Sept. 15, 2020.

Retired SPO4 Edmund Junco, 65, was driving his Toyota Hilux with his 57-year-old wife
Betty when two men on board a motorcycle started shooting at their vehicle.

Maj. Jonathan Taneo, head of the Talamban Police Station, said three men were also
injured in the incident. However, police weren’t able to get their names.

He said Junco’s vehicle rammed two men on two motorcycles after the latter was shot.

A stray bullet also struck another motorcycle driver, who was rushed to the Cebu City
Medical Center.

According to Taneo, the assailants could not be identified since aside from wearing
“bonnets,” they also wore full-face helmets.
Taneo said there was a big possibility that the gunmen had followed them from the
downtown area to their house in Maryville Subdivision in Barangay Talamban.

“Ma’am Betty told us that she never had a chance to see the gunmen because when she
heard the shots, she instinctively dropped to the floor,” he said in Cebuano.

After overcoming her initial shock, Betty looked up to see her husband covered in blood, he
said.

Taneo said they are still waiting for witnesses to come forward.

He said his men have been going around establishments that have security cameras near
the crime scene to check if the ambush was caught on tape.

He said Junco’s wife had no idea if her husband had any enemies or had been receiving
death threats.

Taneo said they still don’t have a motive for the crime.

However, he said they are not discounting the possibility that the victim made enemies
when he was still active in the police force.
