Lab Assignments:
-This week will start our culturing labs

LAB: Culture characteristics of Mircroorganisms Lab Manual:

LAB: Physical factors: Temperature pp. 73-84 (PDF 75-86)

The reading material that introduces Each lab is there to help answer the questions and explain the lab.

Culture Characteristics of Microorganisms lab: Using the characteristics on Page 74 (p. 76 in PDF) fill in
the slants, plates, and broth cultures for the five bacteria M. luteus, P. aeruginosa, S. Aureus, E. coli, and
B. cereus (which is really close to B. subtilis if you find pics of that bacteria) on pages 77-78 (p 79-80
PDF). You will find images of these in Google images fairly easily. I did have trouble finding some of the
slants or broths, but all 5 of these organisms is relatively easy to find blood agar plate pictures of on
google images. I know the lab says nutrient agar plates but it would be more beneficial if you found
blood agar plates for the round plate pictures. For the slants or broths any broth or slant of growth
would suffice regardless of the type of broth or slant you find the bacteria on. As an example if you
enter ‘S. aureus on blood agar’ (or nutrient slant or nutrient broth) in the google search engine there are
plenty of images to be able to draw and note the growth characteristics.

Physical factors: Temperature Lab: You do not need to fill in the observation and result section on page
83 (p 85 PDF). You do need to fill in all the review questions (including the table on p 83 (p 85 PDF)) on
pp 83-84 (p 85-86 PDF).

(remember if you have the lab manual use the page numbers provided if you are using the PDF files
from Canvas use the PDF page numbers).

Send the pages to my email address as you have finished them by May 31 st.
