72-Year-Old Sets 3 Records Crossing the Atlantic Alone

Finishing a journey that took 96 days, 72-year-old Graham Walters arrived by rowboat on the
Caribbean island of Antigua on April 29. He has now set 3 world records.

Walters began his one-man boat trip on January 25, leaving from Gran Canaria, just off the
northwest coast of Africa. He left before the COVID-19 virus began to spread around the world.

"At the start of the crossing, the weather was cold and wet and miserable so my spirits got quite
low," he told CNN. "But once the sun came out when I got to the Atlantic everything was fine."

However, Walters did have a few problems during his trip. As he crossed the ocean, he had to
deal with rough water, a broken water maker, and even a shark. And although his wife gave him
updates about the virus, he didn't know how bad things were until he arrived in Antigua.

Guinness World Records confirmed that Walters has set three new records, including "oldest
person to row across the Atlantic Ocean solo" and "oldest person to row across any ocean
solo."

He is also the oldest person to row across the same ocean multiple times, having crossed the
Atlantic five times, three of them solo.

For this trip, Walters raised money for Help for Heroes, a charity for British veterans. He also
says this trip will be his last.
