Warranty BROCK® Roof Handrail, 30° Roof
Warranty
Brock Grain Systems (“BROCK”) warrants each new BROCK® product manufactured by it to be free from
defects in material or workmanship for one year from and after the date of initial installation by or for the original
purchaser. If such a defect is found by the Manufacturer to exist within the one-year period, the Manufacturer
will, at its option, (a) repair or replace such product free of charge, F.O.B. the factory of manufacture, or (b) refund
to the original purchaser the original purchase price, in lieu of such repair or replacement. Labor costs associated
with the replacement or repair of the product are not covered by the Manufacturer.
CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS
1. The product must be installed by and operated in accordance with the instructions published by the
Manufacturer or Warranty will be void.
2. Warranty is void if all components of the system are not original equipment supplied by the Manufacturer.
3. This product must be purchased from and installed by an authorized dealer or certified representative thereof
or the Warranty will be void.
4. Malfunctions or failure resulting from misuse, abuse, negligence, alteration, accident, or lack of proper
maintenance shall not be considered defects under the Warranty.
5. This Warranty applies only to systems for the care of grain and feed. Other applications in industry or
commerce are not covered by this Warranty.
The Manufacturer shall not be liable for any consequential or special damage which any purchaser may suffer or
claim to suffer as a result of any defect in the product. “Consequential” or “special damages” as used herein
include, but are not limited to, lost or damaged products or goods, costs of transportation, lost sales, lost orders,
lost income, increased overhead, labor and incidental costs and operational inefficiencies.
THIS WARRANTY CONSTITUTES THE MANUFACTURER’S ENTIRE AND SOLE WARRANTY AND
THIS MANUFACTURER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES,
INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, EXPRESS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES AS TO
MERCHANTIBILITY, FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSES SOLD AND DESCRIPTION OR
QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT FURNISHED HEREUNDER.
BROCK dealers are not authorized to modify or extend the terms and conditions of this Warranty in any manner
or to offer or grant any other warranties for BROCK® products in addition to those terms expressly stated above.
An officer of CTB, Inc. must authorize any exceptions to this Warranty in writing. The Manufacturer reserves the
right to change models and specifications at any time without notice or obligation to improve previous models.

Understand Signal Words

Roof Handrail SAFETY Procedures

WARNING! Failure to comply with the following instructions may result in death or
serious injury.
1. Never climb a damaged or improperly assembled Handrail. Inspect it carefully
before use.
2. Keep Handrail components free from slippery material such as ice, mud, snow,
grease, manure, etc.
3. Wear slip-resistant shoes.
4. Do NOT climb onto the roof if you tire easily, or are subject to fainting spells, or
use medicine or alcohol or are physically handicapped. Never climb when in poor
health.
5. Maintain a firm grip on the Handrails. Center your body between the Rails and bin.
6. Replace the Handrail if it is exposed to fire or damaging chemicals.
7. Never use the Handrail as a platform, plank or material hoist.
8. Never apply a side load. Never push or pull anything while on the Handrail.
9. Never drop or apply an impact load to the Handrail.
10. Never sit on the Handrails.
11. Never use the Handrail as a scaffold.
Handrail Planning
The BROCK® Roof Handrail, when properly installed, is designed to meet or
exceed specifications required by ASAE Standard S412.1.
Refer to your appropriate Roof Construction Manual to install Roof Panels, Roof
Ladder, Roof Ladder Handrail where applicable, and the Manhole.

About This Manual

The intent of this Manual is to help you in two ways. One is to follow step-by-step in
the order of assembly of your Roof Handrail. The other way is for easy reference if
you have questions in a particular area.
IMPORTANT! Read ALL instructions carefully BEFORE starting construction.
IMPORTANT! Pay particular attention to all SAFETY information on Page 3.
• Metric measurements are shown in millimeters and in square brackets following
the English measurement, unless otherwise specified. " equals inches and ' equals
feet in English measurements.

• "Horizontal” (—) and “Vertical” (l), Bottom and Top, in the instructions refer to the
Grain Bin as it is standing.
• “Left”and “right” refer to the Grain Bin as you are looking at it from the outside.

construction continues.

Post Mounting Brackets and Posts

Locate the Ladder Roof Panel, the Panel left of the Manhole.
1. Locate Handrail Posts (Item 1) and Handrail Post Mounting Brackets (Item 2).
Mounting Brackets are installed along this Roof Panel as shown in the Diagrams
on Pages 8-29 of this Manual. Locate the diagram for your Roof diameter for
proper Bracket positions. (Refer to your Roof Manual for Roof Ladder Rung
installation.)
2. Turn each Mounting Bracket so that a slotted hole falls directly over the rib in
front of (on the eave side of) the Post. See Detail B.
3. Bolt the Mounting Bracket to the Rib with two 5/16 x 1'' Hex Head Bin Seal Bolts
(Item 23), and 5/16'' Weatherseal Washer (Item 19) above the Rib; and Hex Nuts
(Item 18) under the Rib. Bolts are in the Roof package. See Figures 3 and 4.
4. Bolt each Post (Item 1) to the front of the Mounting Brackets (Item 2) with two
5/16 x 3/4'' Hex Head Bin Seal Bolts (Item 22) and Hex Nuts (Item 18) as shown
in Figures 3 and 4. See Detail A.

Connections at the Fillhole Platform

(Farm Bins 18'- 48' [5 486 - 14 630] Diameter)
If your Grain Bin is an 18' [5 486] diameter through 48' [14 630] diameter Farm
Roof with a Fillhole Platform, bolt the Outside Tube (Item 12) to the Fillhole Plat-
form Post (Item 15A). See Figure 5. Then slide the Inside Tube (Item 8) into the
Outside Tube (Item 12) and bolt them to Handrail Post (Item 1).
Install a Drill Screw (Item 20) through the Outside Tube (Item 12) and the Inside
Tube (Item 8) on the bottom side of the Tubes.
Refer to BROCK® Manual MCB1395 (left) for Fillhole Platform installation
instructions.

If your Grain Bin is a 48' [14 630] through 156' [47 548] diameter Commercial with a
10° Roof Top or a Flat Top Roof, make the following Handrail-to-Guardrail connections:
60' - 72' [18 288 - 21 946]] diameters: Attach the Outside Tube (Item 9) to the
Guardrail Post (Item 15B).
48' - 54' [14 630 - 16 459] and 75'to 156' [22 860 - 47 549] diameters: Attach the
Outside Tube (Item 10) to the Guardrail Post (Item 15B).
Next, slide the Inside Tube (Item 8) into the Outside Tube (Item 9 or 10) and bolt the
Inside Tube (Item 8) to the Handrail Post (Item 1). Install a Drill Screw (Item 20)
through the Outside Tube (Item 9 or 10) and the Inside Tube (Item 8) on the bottom
side of the Tubes.

Connections at the Eave Platform

Whenever a Roof Stairway or Handrail is installed on a Farm or Commercial Roof,
an Eave Package (9-54375) MUST be installed. This package allows guarded access
to both the Roof Handrail and Manhole.

package MUST be installed. This package allows guarded access to
both the Roof Stairway and Manhole. DO NOT REMOVE any
components from the Roof Stairway to gain access to the Manhole. DO

components to gain access to the Manhole. See also Figure 2 on page

The Eave Platform floor is installed under both the Roof Ladder and Manhole
Panels, with the Floor Plate even with the Eave. To ensure proper fit, do not install
with the Floor level one Body Sheet below the Eave.
The Top Ladder section is located to the right of the Eave Platform. (Bins with side
Ladders and Rest Platforms not using this Manhole-Eave Package will follow the
standard layout in BROCK® Platform Manual MLD2026. If there is no Eave
Platform the top Ladder starts in line with the Roof Ladder Panel.)
A Spring Gate assembly must be installed between the right (open) end of the Eave
Platform and the Ladder-and-Cage access.
A Manhole Surround is installed on the right side and Fillhole (upper) end of the
Manhole, and is connected to the Stairway vertical Posts.
While Platform assembly is the same for all diameters, on 42' and 48' models,
Platform connection to the Manhole Surround differs from other diameters. If you
are installing this Platform package to a 42' or 48' Roof, follow the additional
instructions on pages 34-35.

Additional Installations for 42' [12 802] and

48' [14 630] Diameter Farm Roofs
The Manhole Surround on 42' and 48' Farm Roofs requires an additional vertical
Post (Item 1) * to the right of the Manhole. Upper and Lower Surround Tubes
(Items 74 and 75) are sized specifically for these diameter models. See Fig. 22.
A large L-shaped, slotted Platform-to-Post Bracket (Item 35) is used to connect the
Eave Platform to the bottom vertical Post. On 42' and 48' Farm Roofs, the Bracket
is attached to the left side of the bottom Post. See Fig. 23 on facing page.

Eave Platform Spacing and Attachment to the Sidewall

IMPORTANT! Refer to your Roof Manual for proper installation of ALL Roof
components BEFORE an Eave Platform is installed. Use all Eave
Platform Brackets shown.
Attach LEFT and RIGHT Platform Mounting Brackets (Items 28 and 29) to the
TOP Sidewall Body Sheets as shown. Locate the Brackets vertically as shown in
Figure 25 on the facing page.
Align the first hole in the Mounting Bracket with the top row of Bolt holes in the top
Ring/Tier. Use 5/16 x 1" Bin Seal Bolts (Item 22) with the head inside and Washer
and Nut (Items 18 and 19) outside. This requires drilling holes on 14 ga. and lighter
Body Sheets. Body Sheets 13 Ga. and heavier have horizontal holes spaced 4 11/16"
[119] apart and do not require field drilling.
Attach the Crossbrace (Item 32) to the inside of each Platform Mounting Bracket
with 5/16 x 3/4" Hex Head Gr. 5 Bolts (Item 68) and Hex Nuts (Item 21). See Detail
B on page 38.
Attach the Inner Post (Item 26) to both LEFT/RIGHT Brackets as shown in Details
B and C on page 39.
Assemble the Platform Floor Plate (Item 24) and Platform Kneebraces (Item 27)
to the Inner Posts (Item 26).

Assembly
LONG and SHORT (Upper/Lower) Handrails (Items 30 and 31) are bolted to
vertical Posts with 5/16 x 1'' Hex Head Bolts and Flange Nuts (Items 21 and 23),
heads inside. OUTER Posts are shorter than INNER Posts, which bolt to the Bin
sidewall. Bolt the single, LEFT OUTER Post (Item 25) to the Handrails as shown in
Detail A. On the front right corner of the Platform, use a pair of OUTER Posts (Items
25/25). See Detail C.

Connect the Top Ladder Section (Item 53) to the bin sidewall using LEFT and
RIGHT Top Ladder Standoff Brackets (Items 57/58) under the eave. See Figure 26
on page 37. Refer to your Outside Ladder Manual MLD1538 for Ladder-and-Cage
basic assembly and connections to the Bin sidewall.
The Cage is begun by attaching a Hoop Half (Item 55) to the outside right edge of
the top Ladder (Item 53) with a Locking Clip Assembly (Item 13).

Cage to Platform Connection

The top Hoop Half connects to the Eave Platform OUTER Post (Item 25) with a Cage
Connector (Item 56) as shown in Figure 29 on the facing page. The next Hoop down
is a full Hoop made with two (2) Hoop Halves. This Hoop also connects to the front
of the Eave OUTER Post with a Cage Connector. Use the 5/16 x 1'' Bolts and Flange
Nuts (Items 21 and 23) on the Platform vertical Post connections.
Top Ladder Section Bracing to the Roof
Bolt the flatter ends of two (2) Ladder Back Brace Tubes (Item 51) to the top of the
Ladder Section as shown in Detail C on the facing page.
Bolt the single Ladder Side Brace Tube (Item 52) to the Ladder Section as shown in
Detail E on the facing page.
Secure tops ends of Braces with a Flange Nut (Item 21) on a Brace Bracket (Item 67)
and Locking Clip (Item 13) as shown in Detail F.
Bottom ends of Back Braces will connect to a Roof rib.
The Bottom end of the Side Brace will connect to the Roof panel near the eave; field
drill if necessary.
To connect Brace bottom ends to the Roof, use a 5/16 x 1'' HHBS Bolt (Item 22) on
top, with a Weatherseal Washer (Item 19) between the Brace and Roof/rib, and a Hex
Nut (Item 18) under the Rib. See Detail D on the facing page.

Changes this issue:
An Eave Platform package is now standard with the Roof Handrail. A Manhole Surround and Top Side Ladder section
are standard with the Eave Platform package. Part Numbers changed for the Roof Handrail Complete.
Eave Platform Top Rails are 39.2'' [996] higher than the Eave. Where the Eave Platform Floor was formerly located at the
top horizontal seam (one Body Sheet Ring/Tier down from the Eave), the Floor is now installed level with the eave (same
height).
The Top Side Ladder section is now located to the right of the Eave Platform. It was formerly to the left of an Eave Platform.
Ladder Extension Rails (which formerly extended above the Eave for the Top Ladder section), have been discontinued. The
top Cage Hoop attaches directly to this Ladder Rail. The top of this Ladder section must be even with or higher than the
Platform Top Rails, 39.2'' [996] to a maximum of 54'' [1 372] above the eave.
There is a supplement MLD2027 to this Manual, for the Spring Gate assembly required between the Eave Platform and the
Top Ladder section.
Changes at the eave and Bottom Step: Handrail Bracing and Roof Ladder Rung locations have changed. Handrail Posts have
been added at the eave. The Grabrail has been discontinued.
The Roof Stiffener Ring has been discontinued on some larger Structural Roofs. It is shown in this Manual for retrofit on
existing Roofs pre-2013.
This Manual was formerly MLD1365H.
The Roof Stairway Manual changed from MLD1367H to MLD2029A.
The Flat-Bottom Platform Manual changed from MLD1352 to MLD2026.
The Commercial Hopper Bin Platform Manual changed from MLD1951 to MLD2030.
