INTRODUCTION

CHANGES IN LAND COVER

 Deforestation
 Urbanization
 Croplands Expansions

NEGATIVE IMPACTS
 Increase in surface run off and peak flows
 Leads to greater risk of flooding
 could bring catastrophic(disastrous) damages to human lives and properties

STUDY
 Use of Applications
 Use of models to prompt the hydrology of the river basins using rainfall and land cover information
 model outputs are compared to the impact of land cover change.
 flow hydrographs from the hydrologic models for a certain land cover can be used to the hydraulic models
to generate the movement of water along the rivers, also stimulating the flood depths and extents

AGUSAN RIVER BASIN

 Third largest river basin on the Philippines
 Important in the area due to its socio-economical contributions (abundant water resources, logging,
agriculture, and mining)
AGUSAN MARSH (essential feature of the ARB)
 floodplain where rivers, creeks and tributaries converge and drain northward to the Agusan River and into
Butuan Bay
 Acts as storage for rain water and reduces the downstream flow of flood water into population centers
situated within Agusan River, Particularly Butuan City
