Questions:

1. Why do you think that it is so important to cultivate guanxi and guanxiwang in china?

I think, why Chinese people are cultivating or giving importance to these guanxi and
guanxiwang is because both are very essential for them especially when it comes to
dealings with any businesses that they are up to. When they are into guanxi kind of
attribute, it normally means building relationships or connections with any people
specially that of course by many people, it can create you an empire or can give you lots
of chances specially when doing business. It means so much to them that even
companies present in China really cultivates the guanxi, and believed to be useful for
them in establishing greater networks that could help them do a better job and
mechanism in their business.

That thing could be something even elsewhere not just for the Chinese people but for
us dealing with any transactions and movements daily, we tend to do things that could
help us minimize the amount of pressure or load that really crosses our limits. In a way
of building good relationship with anybody even not in a business aspect would allow
us to do more about what our imagination limits. Even in our simple ways of living,
having surrounded by people whom we are treasuring to could give us relief, or could
change our mood, lessen our burden, and fuels up the possibility of attaining happiness
at the end of the day. Why DMG is doing these things in China? It is because DMG have
learnt a lot from the western countries’ style of doing business since they have also
operated the kind of business there before. Chinese people became so careful about the
culture they are used to, by giving respect at all means that want any other culture to
take place in the society that they are living.

2. What does the experience of DMG tell us about the way things work in China? What
would likely to happen to a business that obeyed all the rules and regulations, rather
than trying to find a way around them as Dan Mintz apparently does?

The experience of DMG tells us a lot of things. First things is that, Chinese people are
really into maintaining and giving importance to their own culture. They preserve it
until such value could really mean a lot of help not just for the good of the business but
for anyone that could inherit such kind of attribute. Guanxi, the culture that means
relationship and Guanxiwang, a relationship network are both very important thing and
is very crucial to consider especially if you are ought to do some business in China and
even elsewhere in the world.
Second thing is that, when you are in China and is trying to build up something, a
business or a brand, it ain’t possible for you to show up above the rest even if you’re not
pure Chinese but you are attaining or following the culture that they are used to. It is
also believed that in spite of the fact that you hold some obligations towards your
superiors or leaders, they additionally have to reward you with something. This
commitment causes them to get a good reputation and backing for what's in the future.
In China when you have these relationships, it will assist you with working around the
law and it can open entryways for your business that isn’t possible to be opened. It
additionally helpful when you have a business that conveys a great job, they bring the
message over what gives you the chance to get great tasks from major companies. That’s
what Dan Mintz is applying and now attaining the success that he wants not just for
himself but for the whole company. Because as the culture observes, it is not impossible
to disobey some rules as long as you are not doing something that is against the earthly
doings for the superiors are going to support you at all cost.

3. What are the ethical issues that might arise when drawing upon guanxiwang to get
things done in China? What does this suggests about the limits of using guanxiwang
for a Western business committed to high ethical standards?

There must be a lot of ethical issues that are arising when following the guanxiwang
kind of culture to get things done in China. One issue about this thing for might be in
common in the world already is what we called the “bribery”. Some people might
consider it unethical as to how they get their stuff done. It is in nature for them that
when we are picking up for a success in anything that we are going to do, we need to
build relationship with anybody, even if he/she got the highest ranking or position in the
country or any company. For it must be a greater pleasure since not all the people are
given the chance of meeting or building a relationship with someone which some
considers them the helpful ones for the business. Second issue is that some people might
consider it wrong for this guanxiwang to be able to build such networks in order to
abuse the laws and regulations mandated by the authorities, which is really not the right
idea to come up to. As we all know that we are doing business, we tend to do the things
that could be beneficial for the business even if means sacrificing some laws or order that
are man-made and which we actually think that could not be helpful for the business.
Though, the culture are being exercise by the Chinese people, I can also believe that even
how high are the standard set by the Western countries, what they still lack is the means
of giving importance to cultures or to the usual ways/old-fashioned kind of doing
business. We know that we are basing our thoughts as to what Dan Mintz have
experienced which is actually good for us to get some lessons that we could look up to.
But, in the western countries, they also have their own ways of dealing their businesses
since they also have big companies that succeeded by their own ways. And it is just
maybe, DMG hasn’t met the help needed for his business from the country he was in
before, that’s why he went to China and got the sweetest success of his own and by the
help of his two friends.
