5 main ideas of today’s class

1. We talked about ethics and some synonyms such as: morals, rules of conduct, rights
and wrongs, virtues, conscience, and standards. We also came to the conclusion that
there are many factors that define what ethics is for each person. For some people
ethics have to do with feelings, religion, laws, standards of behavior, and other
people don’t even know what ethics is.
2. We also studied the difference between ethics and etiquette. Ethics is referring to
moral principles at a very individual level, while etiquette is about a set of rules of
behaviour at a more social level.
3. We went over Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and analized that each country has
different ethics and morals depending on their culture. We also discussed how a
company can be ethical or unethical.
4. We had a brief review on why companies go international. We went over the
definitions of exports and imports.
5. We also watched a video and I found out a couple things to be very interesting such
as:
a. There are many different types of ethicists.
b. Our ethical understanding changes and is built as we grow up.
c. There are personal ethical positions, but also collective ethical positions.
d. Ethics is a set of not only beliefs, but also actions.
e. Ethics are involved in our everyday lives.
