Cacao Industry in Palawan

Cacao is widely grown in the province of Palawan, especially in the southern municipality of Brooke’s
Point where the crop is usually planted in between coconut trees. However, value-adding to the crop is
limited to fermenting and drying of the seeds. Thus, it is sold to local traders in the area.

Although in Brooke’s Point, Ms. Ledy Cuarte started to make tablea from the cacao seeds. She is using
the emulsifier at the Brooke’s Point Kitchen Incubator to grind the cacao seeds and process it into
tablea. A famous peanut butter processor in Palawan, Alonda’s Food Ventures, also use cacao from
Brooke’s Point to create her infusion called Peanut-Choco Spread.
