Report

Introduction

The company is currently joining the cause of green beliefs and pro-environmental actions.
One of the vital concerns is the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.
The purpose of this report is to outline the positive and negative aspects of the measures
taken in order to reduce the carbon footprint.

Measures

When calculating a carbon footprint, a lot of factors are taken into consideration. As a
consequence, a variety of approaches to meet this goal are being adopted. The three key
measures that have been implemented are the reduction of energy, fuel and paper use.

Positive Aspects

The implementation of LED bulbs has significantly reduced the carbon footprint on account of
using approximately 15 times less electricity than halogen lightning. Likewise, urging
employees to cycle to work by bike or to use public transport has alleviated the emission of
nasty carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. In a similar vein, an investment in a more sustainable
company car fleet has contributed to the cause. Finally, giving up paper in favour of digital files
and documents not only has created a friendly working environment, but also has obliterated
the reams of built-up paperwork. What this means is that the greenhouse gases emissions
emitted during the life-cycle of paper production, converting or printing and distribution has
been attenuated.

Negative Aspects

On the flip side, when it comes to the installation of LED bulbs it is advisable to bear in mind
that most of products that are good for the environment are a little bit more expensive than
those traditionally used. Similarly, some hybrids cost much more than conventional cars and
this stems from the fact that they don't live up to the gas mileage the company may expect. It
can be fairly costly. With reference to paper, hidden costs attached to digital file keeping have
been exposed. One of the many and dear concerns for offices going paperless is data security.

Conclusions

The benefits of reducing carbon footprint can not be underestimated. Based on the measures
taken by the company, it would be advisable to continue with them since the positive aspects
far outweigh the negative ones. An upfront investment in equipment might be logically
necessary in order to achieve the basic goals mentioned above.
