Paper books versus E-books

I would like to start with the fact that in our world it is quite difficult to set
aside time and read a book from cover to cover. In practice, it's simple— just
take the time to sit down and let your imagination run wild with narration by the
author. However, in contemporary society, it is quite difficult not to be
distracted by notifications from an app, a new episode of your favorite TV
series, or by just surfing on Instagram. Time has become a very valuable
resource, and most people have been spending this time resting from work,
meeting friends, or watching a movie. This choice is obvious because it requires
less effort. Of course, it all depends on the person and his preferences, but often
I heard from my friends such phrases: Yes, I knew everything about this book!
And I have already added them to my notes. One day I will read all the list. I am
also a part of this team of such people. But luckily I have recently developed a
winning strategy- to make time and read. After all, what does it mean to read
books nowadays? Is it a feature of a well-educated person? This is a very old
dead stereotype - that the one who doesn't read a single book is stupid, can't
write, doesn't have the ability to express thoughts correctly. And most
importantly, an educated person should not communicate if their interlocutor
has not read at least three Pulitzer prize-winning books. Personally, I consider
this myth remained on the dusty desk at school. You need to read-only for
yourself, not for others, colleagues, or to follow someone else's label —
otherwise, this type of activity will be just tortured on your mind. This is the
main idea of my strategy. For quite a long time, I struggled with searching for
my own personal genre of books. The best sleeping pills from all my students’
life were ancient Greek philosophy and religious studies. So what I supposed to
read? In the end, I have found my best choice by terrible trial and error —
popular science literature. It is interesting fresh, and if seasoned with humor, it’s
just marvelous. However, as soon as I decided which genre, another problem
emerged — what format of literature suits me the most. Until 2018, I could
easily read from any electronic medium, whether it was a phone, laptop, or a
friend's e-book. However, I always felt a little inconvenient vibe and I could not
clearly explain the reason of it. Saying that to comfort myself that it was just the
weather, I had a headache, so I had to reread an entire chapter from the phone.
A year later, friends gave me a selection of books that I have had dreamed of,
and then I literally felt the full difference of literature before and after. I can
only say that it all depends on the person, in any case, I do not want to impose
my opinion, and then it will be my favorite turn with a delicious phrase-but!
PERSONALLY identified advantages of an e-book:
Definitely it is more eco-friendly . Maybe I'm not lobbying Greta and helping
her personally. But it is a fact that modern e-books are much more
environmentally friendly than printed books.
Your eyesight. Oh, Yes, that's what a person with -1 and -2 is telling you. I have
myopia. In e-books, you can adjust the brightness thus sparing your vision
Compact — every day you can carry 300 or more books in a small box with a
cover. (Oh, Yes, the case is definitely necessary).
Minuses:
Too wide choice — I feel like a person with diabetes who was at a candy store.
I download a lot of literature at once and read 3 books at the same time, but I
have never reached the end because for me such access is a big responsibility
that you HAVE to read everything — but you will not read it.
Fragility — The window to the world of knowledge should definitely be
protected.
Charging. The situation on the beach when I took out my favorite book and
could read it without worrying about the sun, sea salt, and suntan oil clearly
showed me that I was with the right book.
Printed book
I love the smell of a freshly printed book — just divine pleasure. In the head, I
know that after this smell, I am immersed in a news story, where there are an
author and me.
Chic cover designs. Yes, do not be surprised, this is the point I highlight
separately. The person who is writing this essay several times bought books
solely because of the covers and I do not regret that I supported the work of
illustrators and editors.
Libraries— going to the library - this is like going to the closet from the
Chronicles of Narnia — you have no idea what will attract your attention, which
author you will have to hunt, and then go to the bookstore because his books are
simply not here.
A separate point — I'm a fan of comics and I appreciate the work of creators
and PR companies.
Bookcrossing is my personal replacement to somehow make a printed book
more eco-friendly. Plus, this way you can meet new people with common
interests.
Learning and studying — unfortunately, I'm much better at learning a printed
material or book, no matter how great the presentation is.
The generation from generation — many older relatives have personal
libraries for me. This is a separate history of the entire generation before my
eyes. What has adored and read pregnant mother or grandfather? What poems
my aunt inspired. This is a family tradition that warms my heart very much.
This is my choice.

The most important point I add here too- is individuality. Everything in the
world is individual and unique, I need to keep my favorite book at home, an
album with photos of my family, a diary from school, and notes from a friend. I
can be considered as quite a material person. And for another person, the
electronic version of literature is the best invention of humankind, and he can no
longer imagine life without a little friend. Therefore, I support Cicero's quote.
“A room without books is like a body without a soul.” Cicero. And if someone
supports a completely digital world — this is also fine and perfect for our world.
