Mine Rescue Apparatus
• The various types of apparatus fall generally into
following three main classes
• Self contained breathing apparatus
• Filter apparatus
• Fresh air tube breathing apparatus
Proto IV breathing apparatus
• The apparatus is designed for a 2 hours use
• Breathing is through the mouth and nosal passages
are closed by a special nose clip
• The exhaled air passes over the protosorb which
removes CO2
• Weight of the apparatus is15.6kg
Proto-v
• The apparatus is an imporvement over markIV
• It's available as a 1hour or 2 hours
• The coolant is CaCl2 orsoda phosphate
• Weight of the apparatus is 14.5kg or 17.2kg

• A wide vision face piece
• A speaking diaphragm
• The byepass valve(push button type)
• A warning signal
• Inhalation and exhalation valve
Self rescuer
• The main purpose of self rescuer is to enable the
wearer to escape through an toxic atmosphere
• Its weight is low, nearly 1kg
• The wearer is protected against CO if it does not
exceed 2%
• The self rescuer does not supply oxygen but
functions to convert carbon monoxide into carbon
dioxide
Gas mask
• The gas mask consists of
• Anhydrous calcium chloride as drier to remove
water vapour (top most layer)
• Hopcalite-it is act as catalyst which changes CO to
CO2
• Cotton wool to remove dust and smoke
• Silica gel to remove ammonia and water vapour
• Caustic to remove sulphuretted hydrogen
• Impregnated activated charcoal to remove organic
vapour
Smoke helmet
• Smoke helmet is a helmet made of tough polathene
having mica eye piece
• The apparatus require the wearer to depend upon
other man for supply of fresh air when the wearer
himself is working is an irrespirable atmosphere
• The wearer is provided with a flexible hose pipe

Draeger pulmotor
• It's essentially consists of
• One or two 2.5 liter steel oxygen cylinders(200bar)
• A pressure reducing valve
• A distribution manifold with shut off valves
• Change over valve
• Breathing bag
• Inhalation mask
Rescue stations
• Central rescue stations
• District or area rescue stations
• Rescue station or rescue room at mines
