Is Harry Potter one of the weakest characters of his own series?

No. Viktor seems to have mentioned several times to Hermione how skilled Harry was, “Viktor always
said - … He said Harry knew how to do stuff even he didn’t, and he was in the final year at Durmstrang.”
(In the Hog’s Head)

Hermione herself told him, “you can do all sorts of stuff that full-grown wizards can’t”. The guy in his 5th
year had a black market in teaching self-defense to his peers and he did it better than the other teachers
they had. That whole chapter In the Hog’s Head is basically a nod to his ability.

We need a teacher, a proper one, who can show us how to use spells and correct us if we’re going
wrong.

Earlier in that book, The Order of the Phoenix, he was touted as having performed impressive magic by
the Wizengamot, and Amelia Bones was said to be “a great witch” (Horace Slughorn).

Harry had a strong shield charm and the twins informed Harry that, “You wouldn’t believe how many
people, even people who work at the Ministry, can’t do a decent Shield Charm… Course, they didn’t have
you teaching them.” (Draco’s Detour) He had a powerful Patronus as well.

The stag’s light, more powerful and more warming than the cat’s protection, filled the whole dungeon as
it cantered around and around the room. (The Muggle-born Registration Commission)

Even coming from a foe early on it is said by Draco repeatedly to his father that “everyone thinks he’s so
smart, wonderful Potter with his scar and his broomstick” (At Flourish and Blotts). He can deal with
grindylows when an older Fleur could not (The Second Task) and he was a quick draw and had fast
reflexes.
