THE NEGATIVE POINTS

- Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia were more or less at the same level of
development as Nigeria in 1960. All of them have managed to break drastically with
their limitations, with underdevelopment. The vast majority of Nigerians are at the
same level of development as in 1960

- Taking into account the role of religion and ethnicity, particularly on a north-south
basis, Nigeria is subject to ethnic and religious tensions - sometimes very serious.
These have been silenced by the expansion of the federation of three large regions
and 36 small states, which to a large extent correspond to the different ethnic groups.

- Petróleo. El descubrimiento de vastas reservas de petróleo en Nigeria podría ser

positivo y negativo, dependiendo de cómo se utilice la riqueza que genera.
-
oil has led to large-scale corruption and the development of a small class of
extraordinary Nigerian wealth, with the result that the majority of the population
remains in poverty. Dependence on national oil revenues has also slowed growth in
other sectors of the economy.

- Corruption. Nigeria is notorious for its corruption. As for its corruption index, Nigeria
is the fifth most corrupt country in the world.

THE POSITIVE POINTS

- With a population of around 160 million inhabitants, Nigeria is the most populous
state in Africa. Therefore, it is potentially a huge market - something that foreign
companies are quietly discovering.

- Nigerians have one of the highest literacy rates in Africa, and they include some
naturally very enterprising people.

- Lo que distingue a la economía de Nigeria de todas las economías africanas es su

naturaleza altamente diversificada.

- Nigeria also has a very high agricultural potential. Nigeria was once the granary of
the rest of West Africa.
