3. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION – TEACHER’S CERTIFICATE (ECE-TC)
(For pre-service candidates intending to join the ECE sector)
This programme is meant for Educators from Special Education Needs Institutions
working with children having the following disabilities:
1) Intellectual impairment
2) Autism
3) Mental retardation
4) Hearing impairment
5) Visual impairment
Note: Candidates not holding any qualification in Special Education Needs will have to
follow a Foundation Course in Special Education at the MIE to be eligible for registration
in the DSEN programme.

5. PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION
(For Educators/ Assistant Educators practising in Special Education Needs
Institutions)
Note:
Applicants should have adequate access to a SEN setting throughout the duration of the
programme.

PRE-VOCATIONAL PROGRAMMES 2020
(For Integration in the Mainstream)
With the phasing out of the Pre-Vocational Stream in 2020, applications are invited from
suitably qualified practising Pre-Vocational Educators for the following
programmes for Integration in the Mainstream:
(i) A Cambridge School Certificate with Credit in at least five subjects including
English Language obtained at not more than two sittings or an equivalent
qualification acceptable to the MIE;
(ii) 2 ‘A’ Levels,
Note:
• At least one subject at ‘A’ Level should be relevant to the Main Field of Study
applied for, except for Physical Education.
• For Physical Education, any 2 ‘A’ Levels will be acceptable

• For Home Economics and Food Studies, an ‘A’ Level in any Science subject
(Biology, Chemistry or Physics) will also be acceptable.
• For Home Economics and Design & Textiles, an ‘A’ Level in Art & Design, Design
and Technology or Chemistry will also be acceptable.
• Candidates possessing only a School Certificate (SC) have to complete the 2
‘A’ Levels in order to be eligible for the B.Ed Programme.

• Full-Time courses are run from 09 00 hrs to 16 00 hrs on week days and 09 00 hrs to noon
on Saturdays. Students may be required to follow courses from 15 30 hrs to 18 30 hrs
during weekdays and on Saturday afternoons.
• Part-Time courses are run from 15 30 hrs to 18 30 hrs during weekdays and 09 00 hrs to
noon on Saturdays. Students may be required to follow courses on Saturday afternoons.
General Notes:
(a) Online Applications should bear all relevant details as per the stipulated entry
requirements since selection will be based solely on information provided online.
(b) A School Certificate ‘pass’ in English Language together with a ‘credit’ in English
Literature or a Higher School Certificate ‘pass’ in General Paper may be considered as
an acceptable alternative to a School Certificate ‘credit’ in English Language.
(c) Qualifications obtained after the closing date will not be considered.
(d) The best qualified candidates will be selected for Full-Time courses.
(e) Seniority will be the determining criterion for in-service courses. As such, in-service
educators have to prove their experience through testimonial(s) at the time of
registration.
(f) The Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) programme will be accredited for
future access to a Master’s programme.
(g) The onus rests on the candidate to submit any equivalence of qualification (if applicable)
from relevant authorities in Mauritius (TEC or MQA).
(h) Rodriguan candidates applying for the Bachelor of Education (Full-Time) programme are
required to make their own arrangements for accommodation in Mauritius to be able to
follow the programme.

(i) Supply Teachers are eligible to apply for the PGCE PT programme. However, the onus
rests on them to make adequate provision for having access to a Secondary School
throughout the duration of the programme.
(j) Candidates are required to follow only one course at a time at the MIE.
(k) Only successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications.
(l) Courses will be run subject to satisfactory response in the respective programmes.
(m) The MIE reserves the right not to run any of the above-mentioned courses nor will it
assign any reason thereof.
Applications must be made online through the MIE website: http://apply.mie.mu. Once the
application is completed, an Online Declaration Form has to be completed, printed and signed
to certify acceptance of the Terms and Conditions stipulated for the programme. The form
should reach the Office of the Director, MIE, Réduit, by Wednesday 13 November 2019 at
3.00 pm at latest.
Applicants who do not have Internet facilities or are unable to apply online should call in person
at the MIE, 1st Floor, Teacher Education Section, during weekdays between 09 00 to noon and
13 00 to 15 00. Facilities to complete the application will be provided against payment of a
nominal fee of Rs 200/- per application.
Application not received as above will not be considered.
The course applied for should be clearly indicated at the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
