Title: H – Bridge with DC motor control.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the H-bridge principle of operation

2. Explain how to control the motor speed and direction of rotation

An H-bridge motor drive uses four power MOSFETs to direct current through a DC motor in one
direction or the other, thereby allowing the motor controller to reverse the motor direction as
needed. The MOSFETs also switch fast enough that pulse – width modulation (PWM) of the pair
of active MOSFETs can adjust the motor speed. The H-bridge and geared motor included with the
NI myRIO mechatronics Kit provides relatively high torque and is suitable for the drive train of a
robotic platform.

Components Required:

1. NI myRIO MXP connector

2. H-Bridge PmodHB5
3. Geared Motor
4. Screw Driver
5. Jumper wires M- F (1)
6. Jumper wires M - M (3)
7. Jumper wires F- F (2)

Build the Interface circuit:

H- Bridge and Geared motor requires six connections to NI myRIo MXP connector B part

1. Geared motor 5V connection from H-Bridge to connector B part, pin 1

2. Geared motor Gnd connection from H-Bridge to connector B part, pin 6
3. H-Bridge 3.3 V connection from H-Bridge to connector A part, Pin 33
4. H-Bridge Gnd connection from H-Bridge to connector A part, Pin 30
5. Enable PWM connection from H-Bridge to connector A part, Pin 27
6. Digital Output connection from H-bridge to connector B part, pin0 (digital output)
