The Crucible demonstrates how language is used to represent the theme of power.

Abigail
manipulates Reverend Parris by presenting herself as a victim with her accusation “She made me do
it”, towards Tituba. Abigail’s power also illustrated when she threatens the other girls, with a
“pointing reckoning”, over what happened the night they were caught in the forest. The theme of
deceit employed in Abigail’s character, represents in the play how language is used as a tool, to gain
control over a situation or the village.
