 User Guide for WILP CSIS Virtual Lab
How to access your Virtual lab portal? Important Note: If you are
behind company firewall,
1. Login into your BITS WILP Elearn portal (https://elearn.bits-pilani.ac.in/) make sure RDP port 3389
2. Click on "My Virtual Labs" under Important Links is open

3. Click on Login with BITS SSO and provide your user credentials(same as BITS elearn
portal).

4. Upon successful login, you will be re-directed to BITS-Pilani Virtual Lab landing page
(snapshot below.)
a. The Horizontal row on top lists all courses and slots booked/available. e.g.: (4/10).
b. The left hand pane includes three functions as listed below:
i. Home/View Slots (If there is a slot booked, details of booked slots appear
one per row)
ii. Book Slot - Used to book slot for your course
iii. Resources - Lab material (Lab sheets, Sample programs, Videos)
How to book a lab slot for your courses?
5. To book a time slot:
a. Choose a day from calendar.
b. Window pop-up titled “Select SlotTimings” appears as shown below.
c. Choose a time-slot and the application highlights time-slot chosen.
d. One can choose “any” available time slot and the choice is committed when user hits
“CONFIRM” button.
i. Given the time window, lab and application(s), there is an upper-limit on the
slots one can book.
ii. Upon consuming all the slots that is permitted for a given user, further usage
will be blocked. [One can, however, request their Professor for additional
access and such requests will be dealt with on a case-to-case basis]

How to login to lab machine?

6. Download RDP: You will be required to execute this step once; once you booked your slot
(Step 3 above), your landing page lists the slot booked. In each such row (as illustrated in
Step 2 above), you canclick on the “Download RDP” to download the RDP.
 a. Click “Download RDP” icon; the RDP downloads.

b. To login to the RDP provide your login credentials.

username: BITS email ID
password: bitspilani
(click YES on all the popups)
Upon successful login, you will be able to access the application.

How to access resources for your course/s?

7. Resources: Lets you access the following:
a. Course materials.
b. Tutorials on application usage – such as booking a slot, logging in to RDP and more.
8. To access Linux Server and MySql DB engine, refer to the below steps:
a. Double Click on the AccessDatabaseLab file on the desktop

b. Type in the password "bitspilani" to login to the Linux(Ubuntu) server

c. To Access MySql DB, in the command prompt, type
#mysql -u <username (first part of your BITS email ID before @)> -p
when prompted for password, type "bitspilani"
d. Alternatively you may use MySql workbench:
i. Provide a Connection Name
ii. Hostname: 104.211.224.31 Port: 3306
iii. Username: first part of BITS email ID before @. Password: bitspilani
iv. Click on test connection and then OK
