Distance and Displacement

SI unit = Meter
Other units = Millimeter,Centimeter,Kilometer
Distance measuring device is called 'odometer'

Displacement
Shortest distance between the initial and final point
Displacement = xf-xi

Speed
Speed = distance/time
SI unit = m/s
Other unit = cm/s,km/h

Illustration-1
Calculate the speed of a swimmer who swims 100m in 50s
Speed=d/t
100/50 = 2 m/s

Illustration-2
An object is moving along a circular path of radius 7m .It reaches from a to b in 10s .Find the speed and velocity

Distance = 22/7 * 7 =22m

We now need speed and velocity
Speed=22/10=2.2m/s
Velocity = (displacement=14)/10= 1.4m/s

Acceleration
a= final velocity-initial velocity/t
SI unit = m/s square
Other unit = cm/s square
s .Find the speed and velocity of the object.
