unife) seis | DW Mecia Group GmbH Data for countries that are not part of the focus group has been extrapolated on the basis of traffic volumes, transportation units, passenger kilometres and tonne kilometres. Product segments In concordance with the previous five editions, the study covers a total of /e product segments: Infrastructure Rolling stock * Services + Rail control * Turnkey management/integration frastructure Infrastructure comprises superstructure and electrification. Superstructure data includes all components of ballastless and ballast track, such as: + Ralls Sleepers and fastening systems Ballast + Engineering and track installation Electrification comprises products and the engineering and installation of catenary, ird-rail and traction power supply systems. Civil works, such as tunnels, bridges, buildings (¢.. railway station buildings) and earth-moving works are not included, (Cu-Nr: 990668169,Sub-Nr. 520167. Lending to another person is forbidden. A new feature in this year's study is a distinction between catenary-free vehicles and those using overhead cable in the light rail segment, Driverless metros are those with Grade of Automation 3 and 4, whereas those with lower grades are operated manually and accounted for separately The rolling stock product segment breaks down as follows:? 1. Very high speed trains and high speed trains The operational speed limit separating very high speed trains from high speed trains is set at 300 kph. Trains operating at a speed equal to or beyond this limit are considered very high speed (VHS). Examples include the French TGY, the German ICE-3, Spanish AVE trains and the Chinese CRHS series. By contrast, trains operating at speeds of 220 kph to 299 kph are referred to as high speed (HS). Examples here include most of the Japanese Shinkansen, Germany's ICE-T and the Acela trains (in service on the North-East corridor in the US). For both VHS and HS trains, each unit is counted as one. Double-deck units are counted as 1.6 single-deck equivalent units. Maglev trains are excluded from the study, 2, Locomotives Locomotives are differentiated by traction system (electric, diesel-electric, and diesel-hycraulic) and by use (passenger services versus freight services). Maintenance cars (such as tamping machines) are excluded. Shunters, considered separately, are defined as locomotives with an engine power of less than 1,000 kW in most parts of the world. However, in the US, diesel locomotives up to 1,800 kW are regarded as shunters, whereas the power threshold for the CIS countries is set at 1,200 kW. 3. Multiple units Multiple units are distinguished by traction system (electric and diesel) and by ‘speed (intercity and regional multiple units). Regional multiple units operate at speeds of up to 160 kph, whereas intercity multiple units operate at speeds between 161 kph and 219 kph. Each unit is counted as one, regardless of Whether it is a railoar power head or a railcar traller.® se rele to the appendix ora detailed dettion ofthe rong st inthis segment, double-deck units are coun units 6 single-deck equivalet units as wel 3 i t : i 2 i 8 i i & 3 Pers. copy for Mr. Chattrjae, Cylent Lid, , HYDERABAD, © DW Media Group GmbH unife) seis | 16 © DW Media Group GmbH 4. Coaches All coaches, including sleep cars and dining cars, are covered by the study. 5. Freight cars Freight cars are counted as one unit each and are not distinguished by type/ class 6. Light rail vehicles Each light rail vehicle is counted by reference to a standard 30-metre vehicle, regardless of whether it is a power head or a trailer. Tramways are subsumed under the light rail vehicle category. As mentioned before, the market development of tram vehicles is now separately observed for those operating free of catenary equipment and those using an overhead cable, 7. Metro vehicles Metro vehicles include all metro products, including what are typically rubber- tired systems such as the VAL systems in Turin, Lille and Chicago. This segment embraces both manual and driverless metro systems. Each unit is counted as one. Metro vehicles are separated into those operated manually and, as of Grade of Automation 8 and above, driverless metro vehicles. 8. Automated systems This segment comprises all monorail and automated people-mover systems (such as those encountered at airports, theme parks and trade show grounds). One exception is that manual monorail systems are also included. Each unit is counted as one. Infrastructure services include labour and parts for maintaining superstructure and electrification. The servicing of rolling stock includes both heavy and light maintenance, as well as refurbishment and spare parts. (Cu-Nr: 990668169,Sub-Nr. 520167. Lending to another person is forbidden. Pers. copy for Mr. Chattrjae, Cylent Lid, , HYDERABAD, ‘Rail control’ The rail control segment comprises all areas of rail control and signalling solutions, for instance: train protection and control systems (e.g. conventional signaling and automatic train protection systems like ERTMS and CBTC, communications-based train control); communication equipment (e.g. conventional telecom equipment, signalling support equipment and passenger announcement and information systems) and operational control systems. Route control systems (with both their interlocking portion and their wayside equipment) and level crossing equipment are also included. ‘Turnkey management/project integration’ Turnkey projects combine at least two of the three key product segments (olling stock, rail control and infrastructure) with a management portion and, potentially, a services part. Operations may also be part of turnkey projects, though are beyond the scope of this study. The same applies to civil works. However, in this segment, only the value added by project management is included. The value of rolling stock, infrastructure and rail control elements is subsumed under the respective segments, Rall control ‘Rallcontrol sentation of urnkoy do © DW Media Group GmbH 3 i a i : 2 z 3 i 3 3 i i Pers. copy for Mr. Chattrjae, Cylent Lid, , HYDERABAD,
