How to get a Google API Key

Step 1: In the address bar type the URL - https://console.developers.google.com/apis

and press the Enter Key.

A Google API window will appear as shown below along with API manager on the left
pane.

Step 2: Click on the dropdown menu appearing with the option “Project” just beside the
term Google APIs.

The same is shown below:

Step 3: On clicking the above mentioned drop down menu, you’ll get an option to
“Create project”. Select the same and a new dialog box will appear asking your project
name.
Step 4: Enter the product name for which you want to generate an API following which
Google will generate a unique ID for you. Then click on create.

Step 5: After you click create, the process of project creation starts which will take a few
seconds. Once the process of creation is complete, then click on the “Library” option
which appears under the API Manager window present on the left pane.

On clicking “Library” the following window will appear on the screen.

Step 6 : In the search bar which appears now, type “custom search API”.
As you type “Custom Search API” and press the Enter key, an API named the same will
appear on the screen along with its description mentioned.

Step 7: Click on Custom Search API link which appears on the screen. You will be then
again directed to the dashboard and a new custom API window will appear along with
an option of “Enable” mentioned at the center-top as shown below.

Step 8: Click on “enable” option which would start the process of enabling and would take few
seconds for the same. Once it is complete, a message appears stating that “To use this API,
you may need credentials. Click "Create credentials" to get started.”
Step 9: Click on the “Credentials” options on the API Manager on the left pane. A dialog
box named “APIs credentials” appears along with a drop down menu of create
credentials.

Step 10: Click on the dropdown menu and select and select API Key option which
appears.
Step 11: As you click API Key, a process of key generation is initiated following which
your API Key appears on the screen.
