Quiz #4

1. What essential principles about assessment and evaluation should educators,

especially classroom teachers bear in mind?

2. Based from your experiences, what do you think are the functions of test in learning?

List down as many as you can.

There are quite several functions of test in learning which I can relate to based on my
experience. They are as follows:

a. To measure students' learning.

Tests are used to determine if students are able to grasp the learning or the
information that they were expected to learn. Through the use of test, educators are
able to measure students' learning.

b. To determine students' knowledge.

Through test, educators are able to measure how much do students know about
a certain topic or information. For example, in a language test, students' knowledge on
using correct grammar is determined through a grammar test.

c. To determine students' ability and/or capabilities.

Students' ability and/or capabilities are also measured through test. Educators
are able to determine if the students are able or capable of using the English language,
for example, after students undergo English language test.

d. To identify students' strengths and weaknesses.

Through test, educators are able to know and identify students' strengths and
weaknesses. When educators already have an idea of the students' weaknesses, then
educators will know the best thing (teaching strategy which suite with the students'
learning styles) to do in order to remedy and assist students to battle or cope with their
weaknesses, thus improving their learning.
There are still a lot of functions of test in learning. What I have mentioned above were
just a few of them. In conclusion, test plays a very important role in the whole
assessment process.
