I'm going to speak about Canada. It is a country which is in the north of the American continent.

The geography in Canada is very varied. It is the second biggest country in the world, after Russia.
Its land spreads between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. The first inhabitants of Canada
were eskimoes and American natives. The word “Canada” means “village” in the language of a
tribe of natives. Nowadays, you can still find eskimoes in the north of the country. They have a
special folklore and their own traditions.

Canada is divided in 5 regions:

-the Canadian Shield
-the Appalachians
-the great lakes
-the plain of Saint Lawrence
-the inland plain

the Canadian Shield is a basin which spreads to the peninsula of Labrador. In the centre of this area
there is an arch where we can see the huge bay of Hudson. It is the biggest region of all. In the north
there are a lot of islands which form the Canadian archipelago.

The Apalaches is a range of mountains placed in the east of the country. There are a lot of fertile
lands in this area.
There is another important range of mountains in the west: the Rocky Mountains.

During the Quaternary period , most of the territory in Canada has been covered with ice. Thanks to
this enormous mass of ice, a great number of lakes has been created.

Canada is also famous for its forests of high trees. The most renowned is the maple tree; the leaf of
the maple tree is the symbol of the country and appears on the Canadian flag.
The longest river in the country is the MacKenzie. The most important lakes are: the great lake of
the Bear, Winnipeg, the lake of the Slave and Nipigon.

The population in Canada is 37 millions inhabitants. It is a very low number of inhabitants for such
a big country; that's because of the climate. It can be difficult or impossible to live in several areas
in Canada. The weather in Canada is really cold in the winter, with temperatures below zero. It is
cool in the autumn and warm in the summer, with temperatures from 15ºC to 28ºC.

There are people of all races, but the majority is the Aryan race. There are two official languages:
French and English. The capital city is Ottawa and other important cities are Quebec, Montreal and
Vancouver. The most populated one is Toronto.
There isn't an official religion in Canada. It is a multicultural country where everybody can show
their traditions and beliefs.

Some typical Canadian dishes are smoked meat, maple syrup, paté chinoise and La Tourtiere, a kind
of meat cake.

Canada is a very attractive country for tourists. It has a lot of National Parks, like the National Park
of Banff, in the Rocky Mountains. People can go trekking and see the wildlife in the short distance.
There are also many lakes where you can sail on a boat and see the wonderful glaciers around, like
Moraine Lake. The scenery is breathtaking.

In the cities you can enjoy skating on ice on the Canal Rideau, in Ottawa or having a meal at a
spectacular restaurant at the top of the CN Tower, in Toronto. This restaurant is in the tower at 470
metres high. It rotates, so you can see all the city from the top while you are having lunch.
An experience I recommend is going to the Horseshoe Falls: they are on the Canadian side of
Niagara Falls. There are boats which take you there. Another interesting activity is walking along
the Hanging Bridge in Capilano. It is a bridge which was built in the nineteenth century and it is
situated on top of the trees, so there is a long distance to the ground. You can only cross it on foot.
You must feel like a bird when you are crossing it.

My personal opinion about this place is really positive. I recommend everybody to visit Canada. It
is an amazing place where you can experience a lot of activities and enjoy the wonderful
scenery. You shouldn't miss a trip to Canada, at least once in your life.

Finally, I have chosen this country because I feel attracted by its landscapes, the wildlife and the
lively cities. Besides, I think that the region of the Great Lakes must be fantastic. Its landscapes, so
near the North Pole, are something I would like to see and enjoy.
