Cutting With Plastic Scissors

let’s learn to cut some straight lines.

We can learn how to use plastic scissors.

We have some pictures that we can cut out.

We’re going to need some scissors; here’s a pair specially made for little hands.

We need to be very careful when using scissors

We can cut ourselves if we’re not careful.

These are special scissors for children so they’re not very sharp.

I’ll show you how to use them.

First, put your thumb through this hole and your middle finger through this hole

Not quite, put your finger all the way through the hole.

You’ve got it. Now open your hand.

Now close your hand.

This is how we use scissors.

Now we’ll practice by cutting some paper.

First, we place the paper flat on the table like this.

Now, lift the paper a little bit and place the scissors on the paper.

No, you need to open the scissors and hold them so that the bottom blade is
underneath the paper and the top blade is on top of the paper.
Now, remember how we open and close?

We’re going to open and close and snip some paper.

You’ve cut some paper, now you see how it works.

Now you have to move the scissors up the line a little bit so that you can cut some
more.

That’s it. You can hold the paper down with your other hand to make sure that it doesn’t
slip.

You’ve cut the piece of paper in half.

Now we’ll try cutting out a shape.

Here’s a picture of a square. Let’s see if we can cut it out.

First you need to start at the edge of the paper again and cut up to the picture.

Now, with your scissors, follow the lines of the house. Try to stay outside of the lines.

Remember to snip carefully to make sure that you stick to the black line.

Oops, that one was a bit wobbly. Never mind, carry on.

You’ve cut out this side. Now you can start from the other end to cut out the other side.

Nearly there now.

See if you can follow the lines of the roof to cut out the whole house.

Oh dear, you went inside the line there but never mind, the roof will just be a little bit
smaller.
Now cut down the other side.

Now you’ve cut out our house!
