CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

The field attachment was conducted in Morogoror region Kilosa Municipal Council particulariy

vom

at mbumiward.The

major purpose of the field attachment was to evaluate measure and

improvement of the student in practical activities related to the field of the study with skills and

knowledge obtained during class sessions.This helps student to gain experience on issues and

matters concemns the area of the study with practical experience some as what happens day to day

real situation where by student understand how the ward is o.ganizeu,Problems faced by the

ward its resources the level of development,Achievement and active solutions for existing

problem.

The field was conducted through collecting data from primary source and secondary source by

gathering information like interview;focus group discussion and observation method.Inside of

this attachment report readers will be able to see and meet with the following unique things like

social,economic,physical,and cultural aspects at mbumiward,challenges and achievements

faces by that ward,conclusion,recommendation,references and appendices.

1.1 Profile of the field attachment area

1.1.1 History of the ward

Mbumi ward is obtained in MorogoroRegion.the ward was established in 2001.Accorhing to.

2012 population and housing census of mbumi Ward have a total number of populationo

104.127.Where male arc 49263 and female 54.864.Atmbumi ward there are ninemitaahii

magomeni,htendeni,Stop over.Ulaya,Kingongo,Mjimpya and Mbumi A.oI


Mbumiward there is Manzese ward,(Estern part Mtendeni ward,Westem part there ismanzese

ward and Southern part of magomeni ward.

1.1.2 Physical features

1.1.2.1 Vegetation

Mbuni ward is characterized by shrubs trees and leguminous plants and shadow trees.Example

Panted

Natural vegetation are Mwarobaini,and baobao trees.Artificial vegetation was like avocado.

orange,pawpaw,banana and mango trees which surrounding the whole ward of mbumi.The

ward contains hard stones,rocks and soil,the ward is covered by the three types of soil which is

loan soil,sand soil,and clay soil.

1.1.2.2 Rainfall

In mbuni ward rainfall received per year range from 500mm to 1200mm.Rainfall starts in late

August and sometime even early September.Also the long rains season start in late November to

December and early in April due to climate change rainfall does not consider agriculture season

which leads to low productivity as a result rainfall differs tremendously from years to years.

1.1.2.3 Temperature

The Temperature of mbumi ward varies from time to time.During summer the temperature

ranges from 28'C to 31'C that in June to the temperature range during winter season in October

to December every year.Also the temperature has been increased due to human activities that

lead to changes in climatic condition.Thecause of temperature there is depend much on cutting

trees for lumbering and charcoal as well as fire wood collection.

1.1.3 Social Aspects

1.1.3.1 Health

Within mbumiward there is no hospital instead they use health care which they are two of them
oneis allocated at

(ma

gomenimtaa and another on in Mtendenimtaa also they have 43

pharmacies available at mbumi.

1.1.3.2.1 Performance at mbumi ward..

Performance of mbumi

primary school was very high in 2019 because of the access of enough

teachers and cooperation with pupils and parent.Compare to other years especially in 2017 the

performance as very low.And we measure the performance in Standard seven level.

1.1.3.3 Water

In Mbumi Ward the main source of water is MOWASA who are responsible in provision of water

service to the people of mbumi ward.The aim of theproject is to supply enough safe and clean

water to the residence of mbumi ward .But there is challenge that people of mbumi ward are face

in water services that lead to dwellers of mbumi Ward to get water in 3 days per week.

1.1.3.4 Roads

Roads system at mbumi Ward are still in good condition,the situation in general is at least meet

the requirement of the ward because of different available business opportunities then there is

mobility of different goods and service in the ward,the situation has led to the demand of

standards roads and good transportation facilities.Two kinds of roads are available at

mbumi Ward these are earthen and tarmac roads.

1.1.4 Economic Aspects

Mbumipeople are engaged in economic activities such as Petty business or local processors as all

employment to people that help them to meet and satisfy human needs services as food,shelter

and clothes.

1.1.4.1 Agriculture

In Mbumi ward majority of people practice small scale agriculture activities on their daily

activity and mostly they mix the cropsduring Agriculture.The main food crops produced in

mbumi ward arecassava and sweet potatoes.Most people in the community are peasants who use

hand hoes for cultivation whereby use more time for cultivation due to the fact thiat it is difficult

to cultivate a large area at a short time.Other few people use modernization in their agriculture
activities and irrigation system for the people who are living in good condition.

1.1.4.2 Business

Most of the people in mbumi ward are engaging in trade business activities where they earned

income through these activities for their daily and future lives.In that ward also there is different

entrepreneurship groups those groups are formed by the people in collaboratin with banks.

1.1.5.3 Festival

In Mbumi Ward like other ward which available in urban area,the most ceremonies that are

more considered are;New Year,Christmas,Easter day and Islamic holidays due to the

availability of many Christian and Islamic religion.

1.2 Back ground information

1.2.1 Establishment of the ward

Mbumi ward was established or formed in 1986.The originated tribe is Wapogoro tribe but other

people who live in Mbumi ward were from different areas like chinyanga people,Wapogoro,
Sukuma and Chaga for the purpose of doing different activities.Its name originated from

“Mbumi'as the area where taboos and customs dance style where practiced.According to census

of 2012 the population of Mbumi ward was 104,127.(source)

1.2.2 Objective of the Ward

mbumi ward has the following major Objective

I.To construct ward health center so as to avoid disturbance which they got at

Mtendenihealth centre

II.

To construct Mtaa Executive Office in each street so as to get services near their
residence instead of moving long distance to the Ward Executive Office.

III.

To build/Construct teacher ettlement,two classes and to accomplish laboratory at

mbumi secondary school.

IV.To establish market place so as to give an opportunity to sell their coinmodity near by the.:::.

ward in order to increase their income

V.To increase quantity and quality of social services like Schools,Health center,and

distribution of Water services to all streets and infrastructure like road.

1.2.3 Functions of the Ward

To solve conflict among people

To encourage people at the ward to promote their own development through participation

in ward meeting

To maintain peace and harmony among the people.

IV.

To evaluate all development activities.

V.

To keep records of all activities for the ward.

VI.

To solve all problem or evils at the ward based on solving different problems about land

conflicts.
CHAPTER TWO

2.0 PRESENTETION OF THE EXPERIENCE FROM THE FIELD

During the field work by considering to the work schedule or log book that attached as an
appendix the following below are the deeply explanation of the activities in the field.

2.1 Description of student's involvement in the ward activities

This chapter shows all activities that student did at the field with the explanation of experience

gained from the activities that were performed.The chapter is divided into three parts which

including involvement of student in the ward activities,achievement and chalieng.,thai facing

the ward.

First week

This is the first week a student reported at the field area and she was given the orientation also in

this week a student involved in different activities in office by solving personal problems,

writing a letter to head of hamlet,also she involved on collecting tax to different source of

learnt

revenues in ward like market,small shopping,canteen,and others.A student learned on how

ward office involving on solving different personal problems,and how to collect tax from their

source of revenues and on how to write the letter to the different head of hamlet.

Second week

The student used to write official letters also the student solving ward conflict with other office

members and by doing so the student became aware on how to solve different community

conflicts.

Also the ward holds the ward meeting and also attending on meeting and writing official letters

that makes the student to increase knowledge and to know how to hold and control public

meeting.Also

Third week

The office member were passing through ward area to insist the ward to do clearness as it had

announced by the president of Tanzania and because of this the student leant on how to face the

ward with different matters.Also the student performed a work of collecting taxes to

businessmen and entrepreneurs and through this activity the student becomes aware on how to

collect public fund and managing it through recording it to the cash book.

Fourth week

In this week student involve writing all names of people who are old in age in order to give them

chance to have free treatment concern health.

The student solving a case concerning land in the ward among tw'o differemt itizen which are

interfered each other but in this case student was fail to get solution hence delegate decision to

another authority.

Also student attending to the meeting with all members of ward and student write a letter

concem the meeting for final result which help the student to have experience concern report

writing.

Fifth week

On this week the student where given the task of collecting some data about number of student

enrolled in the ward the student conducted that task in very respective manner and accomplish it

Sixth Week

On this week student proceed in conducting different office activities and on this week student

wrote some official letters and attending the Ward Development meetings so this activities where

among of the lesson to the student to rise its knowledge.

Seventh Week

On this week the student used to perform an inspection of clearness around the ward and

On this week also the student where given the time to conduct his research so as to acquire more

knowledge in his report to be done in high cooperation of both student and Ward executive

officer.Also the student wrote different letters to other subordinate and it was successful activity.

meetings,according to that a student knows on how the meetings are supposed to be conducted.

Tenth Week

The student compiled all the required data for the report and evaluated and the success of all the

activities performed throughout the field work and thanked the ward leaders for their time and
cooperate which marked the end of the field work.At this week student performed those

activities for gaining knowledge about different activities taken in the ward office.
