The Manobo tribe is one of the most popular tribe in the Philippines.

As I study about this tribe, I

realized many things and I have a lot of questions for myself like what if like them we don’t have many
gadgets and don’t have innovative objects to depend on? So lets talk about my insights about the
Manobo tribe the Manobo tribe have their faith in their tribe because for them The tribe survived through
the test of time. Most of the members still believed that their culture will not vanish. They think that there are still ways
to preserved them. One way is performing public rituals together.  Each Manobo community consists of a clan ranging
from 20 to 200 members who are headed by a datu. The term datu and bagani are synonymous. The bagani or datu was
choosen to be the headman of the community. For them, their tribe are religious people demonstrated in the respect of
the practices for the elders of the tribe. The hopes and aspiration of Manobo tribe are: Preservation of their land. The
lives of the Mano- bo tribe revolved always in the belief that unseen spirits are interfering the activities of humans. For
me, Unseen spirits are both good and evil and can be evoked to anger and also to pleasure. The Manobo tribe needs a
place where they are free to perform their rituals and practice their beliefs because they know that other people may
belittle them for example if when a Manobo tribe perform their rituals in a city, other people may look at them and
judged them by the way they dress and what they look like. Also, as I do my research I learn that the Manobo tribe
longed for education. They wanted that their children can come to school and have education. They even dream that
their children will get a degree in college so that they will lead their tribe in the future.

Members of the tribe seldom settle their disputes in the barangay system but rather in the laws of their tribe, they still
prefer their own system. Their knowledge in survival and in disaster risk management are very unique. They able to
survived in their land even in scarcity of foods and posing danger of environment. And their knowledge in traditional
medicines that has scientific basis like the use of plants and other herbs are very effective.

I learned that the Manobo tribe tribe passed down their wisdom from generation to generation The Manobo culture
shows that maintain- ing family culture has a strong effect on children’s social and emotional development.

In Manobo tribe when there is a marriage Marriage. Engagement is traditionally arranged by parent years before the
children marry, because negotiations sometimes last over a num- ber of years. Usually the first presents given to the
girl’s father is a spear or knife. On the second day is the pig, and etc are presented to the girl’s family. The end of giving is
marked by a great feast, in which the man’s family gives the last set of gifts. The bride and groom, seated on mat,
exchange a handful of rice. Com pare to Filipino tradition we don’t do these tradition totally but it is similar because in in
our tradition we usually do the “pamamanhikan” to the girl.

When I compare the culture of the Manobo tribe and for Filipinos there are still the same tradition but the Manobo tribe
is more primitive than us.Also, This study helps us to deepen more our understanding to the poor and respect the tribes
and those people who have opposite beliefs of yours.
