1. The Firing Device, electrical, F7, six circuit i s used for testing the
firing circuit of an electric detonator, testing the condition of the external battery,
and firing the detonator when required.
a push button FlRE switch. This switch must be pressed at the same
time as the desired selector switch to fire the detonator. When the
device i s switched to the test position the FlRE switch i s inoperative.
5. A raised ridge on the upper face protects the switches and meter from
accidental damage when dropped or knocked.

CHAPTER TWO - OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
8. The Firing Device, Electrical, F7, Six Circuit provides a check of its
own 1.5 V battery and the external 90 V battery,
9. To check that the 1.5 V battery (size AA) i s i n place, unscrew the slotted
cap marked 1.5 V BATTERY, If required, insert a battery with the positive teat of
the battery pointing down. Replace the screw cap and tighten securely to ensure a
good electrical contact and sealing against the rubber gasket.
10. Using the screwdriver provided, connect the battery lead to the screw
terminals on the end of the firing device, the red lead to the positive terminal.
Insert the plug in the 90 V battery socket.
11. Switch the TEST ARM lever to TEST, press the TEST toggle switch to
CHECK ZERO and set the meter to the right hand edge of the green sector (zero)
with the SET ZERO knob. If the meter w i l l not zero, check that the cap of the
battery compartment i s screwed tight, thus making good electrical contact. (Do not
remove the rubber gasket from the cap). If the cap i s secure, then the 1.5 V battery
i s flat and must be replaced. Release the TEST switch.
12. Press the TEST switch to TEST BATTERY, observe the meter reading and
then release the switch. If the meter reads in the green portion the 90 V battery i s
serviceable.
SECTION 5 - SETTING UP
15. Position mines and flares i n the required tactical position not more than
300 metres from the firing position. Each firing device i s packed w i t h six adapter,
plug, Firing Device t o Claymore. These plugs can be screwed on t o the end of
bared D10 electric cable and then plugged into the M4 blasting cap lead.
16. Attach the D 10 electric cable t o the detonator wires, anchor the cable
end, and run out the cable t o the firing position. Identify the circuit by a tag on
or knots i n the cable, eg, two knots i n the pair for M i n e 2 or 2 knots i n one lead
only for Flare 2. Write the circuit identification on the writing plate next t o the
selector switch with a Chinagraph or lead pencil. This identification can be erased
by rubbing with a wet finger.
17. When a l l cables are laid, strip half an inch of insulation from each wire.
Without the 90 V batter y connected t o the case attach each pair of f i r i n g wires t o
the appropriate pair of terminals, say, flares on the left and mines on the right of
the case, although any combination of mines and flares t o a total o f 6 can be used.
Keep the connections i n the same order as the position of the weapons; this w i l l
assist i n identification o f the correct selector t o use when firing. When using D10
electric cable i n semi-permanent installations solder t i n the bared wires. This
prevents the steel strands i n the cable from rusting.
c. adjust the SET ZERO control until the meter reads t o the right-hand
side of the green sector, and then release the TEST switch.
d. Push each selector switch i n turn t o each mine (or flare) position and
check that the meter reading i s i n the green sector for a l l firing
circuits.
NOTE
I f the resistance measurement made i n para. 18d.
i s i n the red sector o f the meter, either too much
wire has been used or a poor joint i s responsible
for the high resistance. A reading i n the white
central sector w i l l be satisfactory i f the test o f
the 90 V battery is w e l l i n the green sector.
19. Connect the plug t o the 90 V battery and press the TEST switch t o TEST
BATTERY, observe the meter reading and release the switch. If the meter reads i n
the green sector the 90 V battery i s serviceable.
WARNING
20. Each time the battery i s tested the power consumed from i t i s far i n excess
of that required t o fire a detonator, therefore this testing should be kept to a
minimum. One test per day should be adequate. If the battery has been disconnected
and re-connected, then a cpick f l i c k of the test switch w i l l be sufficient t o prove that
connection has been made.
SECTION 6 - OPERATION
23. Should the equipment be immersed i n water, shake out a l l excess water as
soon as possible. Other than keeping the unit clean, particularly the terminal beds,
and replacing the batteries, there i s no servicing that can be performed by the user.
24. Ensure that, i n use, the ends of the firing wires are stripped of their
insulation, and that the terminals are screwed down firmly with the fingers only.
