Good morning everyone

Dear judges and audiences.

First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Fadilla Salma. I am from Edu Global senior high school.
Thank you for giving me time and place to deliver this speech.
In this opportunity I am going to deliver a speech about reading interests in younger generation.

As a child we used to know movies from books. We used to go to library and borrow books whether it is
fictional or non fictional. We used to think that reading is a fun thing to do. As we started to be able to
read we feel remarkable.

But Nowadays, younger generations are not keen on reading, whether if it’s paper books or online
books. For them reading is nothing more than a dull chore. It is something that we do to reach higher
education. The idea of reading for pleasure is unconceivable to them, unless they want to be “uncool”.
They would much prefer to play video games , scrolling through social media or just simply watch TV.
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against technology and I used it to entertain myself. I enjoyed
watching movies and listening to the music on my phone. However, I fear that with these habits reading
interests in younger generation will decrease.

Besides technology, younger generation are not interested in reading because they think that reading
takes a long time. For them It’s better to watch movies or listen to audiobooks rather than reading it.
Young generation often think it is more efficient to watch movies. However reading books is more fun
than watching movies. When you read a book you can visualize the plot on your own mind. Books also
give us more details while movies are forced to cut these details for timing purposes.

Not only that , the amount of knowledge you can acquire from reading a book is endless. Even fictional
books incorporate life lessons and make you think. From reading you can learn new things such as
learning new words and phrases.

So reading isn’t always a dull chore right? We can turn reading into a fun activity.And also as an older
generation we must tell the younger generation that reading isn’t boring. Reading can be as fun as
playing video games and watching movies. We must bring our next generation to be a better generation
and with that we can make sure that reading interests in young generation wouldn’t vanished.
