(49=C), (50=E), (51=I), (52=L), (53=A), (54=F)

SOLUTIONS OF SOME OF THE QUESTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS

, THE REMAINING MAY BE SOLVED USING THE SAME
METHOD.

Ans17. A can do 1/40 of work In 1 day.

B can do 1/30 of work in 1 day.
C can do 1/20 of work in 1 day.
D can do 1/15 of work in 1 day.
As A and D leave the work at the end of 2nd day. B leaves the
work at the end of 3rd day. Only C continues till the end of day 5.
The amount of work done at the end of day 5 is:
2/40 + 3/30 + 5/20 + 2/15 = 8/15.
So balance work = 1- 8/15 = 7/15. = 46.66 %

Ans18. Since A can do the job in 40 days.

7/15 work will be done in 40 * 7/15 = 18+2/3 day.
When working alternate days will finish on 38th day . That is 5
weeks + 3 days . So it will be Wednesday.

Ans19. Since B can do the job in 30 days.

7/15 of the balance job will be done by him in 30 *7/15 = 14
continuos  days.
When working on alternate days will take 28-1 = 27 days.

Ans 20. 9 +1/3 full days. So on 19th he will complete.

Ans22. In 1 day A and B together can do 1/40 + 1/30 = 7/120 of

work.
so 7/15 of job can be done in (120/7) * (7/15) = 8 days.

Ans25. In 1 day A, B and C together can do 1/40 + 1/30 + 1/20 =

13/120.
so 7/15 0f the job can be done in (120/13) * (7/15)= 4+4/13 days.

Ans32. In 1 day the 4 of them can do 1/40 + 1/30 + 1/20 + 1/15=

21/120.
so 7/15 of the job can be done in (120/21) * (7/15)= 2+2/3 days.

Some rules to follow for summary :

1) Stick to the word limit set for you.
2) Try to understand the main idea behind the passage before
writing the summary.
3) Use correct and proper words and grammar.  Usage of
correct words is very important to write a proper summary.
4) Don't lift sentences from the given passage.
5) Do not add your own ideas, examples or interpretations. You
rae to summarise not give your views on the topic.
6) Include important data and figures.

THE SUMMARY IS:

FDI is opposed by many people except Manmohan Singh and
some of the cabinet members of his party. The opinion behind
the people who opposed the view is that it is concerned only for
the riches and this is another of allowing the foreign countries to
come and exploit our country. There is one sector i.e. retail
sector in which people can never allow FDI. They say that if FDI
comes in retail sector then there will be a big loss in the Indian
economy as the entire road sides' eatables will be replaced by
the big burgers and restaurants but this is not true as India has
accommodated both of them very beautifully. The aloo tikki on
the roadside is still the people's favorites this is more of political
view rather than economic as they think that the vote bank of the
lower people will be lost and many more political reasons. But
the viewpoints are changing slowly and slowly.

summary:

Most politicians are uncertain about the idea of FDI. Their idea is
based on the thinking that intervention of foreigeners will lead to
similar results as that of east india company. The opposition is
strengthened by CTU, CPI(M). The idea comes back from the
time of  nehru and still is widely unpopular among most
politicians.

Some sectors have however started opening up to this idea but

retail is one such sector which says a straight no. The loss of
employment on this score is the main argument advanced by the
Left against FDI in this sector. Some supporters like joshi try and
support the cause by stating that FDI in the retail sector will have
a multiplier effect by generating numerous jobs. The fact that
india is large enough for all kinds of retailers has to be accepted.

Q55. Summary (100 words) FDI in retail sector gets a thumbs-up
sign:

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) finds support very less
forthcoming from among the Indian political class because they
primarily want to exploit the paranoia about foreigners to secure
votes. The most consistent opponents of FDI are the trade
unions which have close ties with Left parties. Once skeptical
about the pro-reforms of 1991, the Delhi comrades are now
welcoming FDI, even if unenthusiastically, on the condition that it
will suffuse new technology, increases productivity and
enhances employment opportunities. Sharad Joshi, a RS
member, helped to dispel fears of loss of employment and
highlighted potential development benefits ranging from
infrastructure to logistics.

55.FDI- The Divergent Views of various groups

There  is a negative wave prevailing among the political class

and Trade Unions which  feel FDI is like exploiting the country to
favour the rich from the Narasimha Rao period. Although the
party has agreed to go with Manmohan Singh ,who believes in
the economic growth due to FDI the party still believes in nehru's
Socialism.Even supporters of FDI in other sectors do not wish
FDI enter in Retail Sector. The Pro-FDI groups say that FDI
brings  new technology, increases productivity and employment
opportunities and there is no fear about the small shopkeepers
because the same case when there was opposition in food
sector was unfounded. There is also a feel among some groups
like SJM that these introduction of shining malls of supermarkets
as a betrayal of the Gandhian ethics of austerity in the simplelife
of the villagers.Gradually a realization that the new economy
offers a better scope for development than older one, with its
snail-paced Hindu rate of growth. Sharad Joshi's support for FDI
in the retail sector, who was earlier in opposition with it is an
example how the  views on the subject are changing.

FDI in the retail sector

FDI is an anathema to many in the political fraternity, especially
to the Leftists who believe that it would benefit the affluent. They
are skeptical about FDI in retail sector as it would harm the
small players. On the contrary, it would give a boost to to the
related sectors ,thus, generating more employment and would
also usher in a professional behaviour. The resistance is
majorly political with each group citing its own
reasons.Nevertheless the fact that the new approach promises
better development is slowly being recognised.

The situation of FDI has become an irony for Govt. with some
speculation supporting around Neo-libralism,culture spoilling
act and ruling of english power. It needs to look from point of
infrasture development as well as economic growth. Major
oppsition parties like BJP must not bring in SJM but look towards
india's growth. As it is given that indian business is meant for
small business as well as for large houses. Still after setting up
retails unit people will not stop eating idli and dosa as their
cultural food.It should not turn a dubious fact to accept for the
parties like CPI and CPIM.
